@MediaActivist ahh, Indymedia…. trying to talk to folks about the fediverse now feels a lot like trying to get folks to publish to Indymedia, back when I was part of a small imc collective. Folks love the idea… but so rarely followed thru.
I think part of our limitation then was that we were great thinkers and communicators, but poor organizers. (Oh, and had no money, but that’s a given lolol)
@lookitmychicken oh no! A lot of people have that same misconception, though. Although it sometimes makes sense for them to be single use in, say, a hospital or industrial setting, my understanding is that for everyday usage you can pretty much wear them til there’s not a good fit anymore, or til they get gross.
I wish I remember the source rn, but I recently read that part of the n95 standard is that they are supposed to maintain effectiveness for up to 200 hours of use. Anyone else know more than me? #covidIsNotOver
Having an event? Want to give out free N95s, but they cost more money than you wanna spend?
Here's N95s for FIVE CENTS EACH
(these have the kind of elastic that wears out easily so you can't get as many re-wears.... hence they're great for situations where many people are likely to toss them after one use anyway, like people who didn't bring their own mask to an event)
@inthehands yikes on bikes - so much revisionist history here. That building was only “affordable housing” in the way big developers use the term. Nobody was out targeting apartment buildings. The owner of Gandhi Mahal, you may recall, said “let my building burn if that’s what needs to happen” (and yes, it was the fires that allowed the precinct to fall) (oh, and did you ever even try their new place?). Sorry not sorry about whatever businesses you stanned.
It’s going to take a lot more than another lefty council person getting elected to quell another uprising, if that’s your main concern…. Especially if those lefties keep twiddling their thumbs while the city keeps tryna hoodwink us about “police reform” this and “community safety” that.
i''m fuckin diggin this intro to mutual aid zine that starts off quoting the likes of mariame kaba and dean spade... and by the end is quoting desert and alfredo bonnano :acab: :anarchoheart2:
If your event isn't taking any accessibility precautions like required masking, or if it doesn't have an accessible bathroom, or requires stairs to enter the venue, etc -- it's OK and good and helpful to put that on the event invite.
It will help people know that you tell the truth and you value not wasting their time.
And if it feels embarrassing to put it on the event invite, then maybe that's a sign you should do something about that.
@MediaActivist I mean i think it's reasonable for a big agitprop project like crimethinc to have accounts wherever people are. but to ONLY rely on crap like bluesky? that's ridiculous? and to answer your question: yes, it really does kind of seem like a cult :D
the invite model is the koolaid, i think. tbh brilliant move on their part to bamboozle people into choosing a non-alternative alternative to twitter. for so many people it's about image more than substance.
It’s kind of wild as a trans woman rn, with our existence being debated in the larger culture war, how much our lives are actually no longer in a blind spot. There’s not as much, for example, “oh, she didn’t MEAN any harm by misgendering your friend… why are so you so upset?” as there was several years ago, in my experience.
Compare, for example, to statements like “oh, she didn’t MEAN any harm by saying [thing that raises red flags of anti-semitism]… why are you so upset?”
Went over to twitter for work. Bunch of local leftists encouraging people to go to the MPD- run "community engagement" sessons, with reportbacks of their own attendance that nakedly show what should've been obvious all along, that the point of those sessions is surveilling the opposition and solidifying police power, while bamboozling community and helping improve the "perception" (not actual function) of police.
How far we've fallen. People with ACAB in their bio should be blockading and preventing police preservationist activities like this - not participating in them. Fer crying out loud!
