Today I wanted to print something from my Arch Linux Box I quickly discover I don’t have the drivers for the printer installed. No problem, I’ll just check the Arch Repos/the AUR for the driver. There is no driver. … Whelp, guess I have to do it myself, but I have no idea how… As per usual the Arch Wiki has a guide for packaging brother printer drivers that are otherwise .deb or .rpm. Guide lacks some important points but I was able to figure them out by intuition/research. Driver works. Now it can’t find the printer even after showing it and me adding it, when I finally need to print. Printer Local Name Resolution is for some reason borked, I presume via some bug or something. But I just use an IP address and it’s all good. Then I figure out how to configure submitting the package for the AUR. Success!

Arch Linux Rabbit Holes may be time consuming, but I learned a LOT today, and actually contributed to my Linux Distribution :)

yeah, F-Droid is run by political leftists. Thankfully at least the app allows you to add custom repos, making it a general purpose package manager.

Computers I don’t have issue with. DRM and proprietary locked-down greed-fulfilling systems are the problem.

Can you add a toggle to the desktop Soapbox where you don’t collapse buttons like “Local” or “Federated” feeds, etc. into a “More” dropdown?

I have more than enough vertical space, especially on my vertical monitor, to accommodate the extra links.

I’m lazy btw, I don’t like having to click click just to get to the Federated or Local timelines.
