@wyliesau@Invictus@Pantangelini to be fair, the problems with EVs are the power systems. Everything else is fuckin' great: full torque at 0rpm, quieter, etc.
The power problem is not slight: * dependence on nasty mining and foreign interests almost exclusively (we have our own oil) * expensive, slow, randomly compatible infrastructure the taxpayer is bilked for * limited range/performance * severe fire hazards
@deavmi@Invictus@Pantangelini@wyliesau It's not like this was new territory. Every terrestrial petrol vehicle on earth is compatible to every petrol fueling system on earth, and has been for approaching 100 years.
If the market had spoken, Tesla would still be using Lotus as a basis. It was government interference and grants that created this industry; the same government that meddles via CAFE standards.
@deavmi@Invictus@Pantangelini@wyliesau the TLDR is something like musical chairs: the standards are slowly adapted to phase out entire types of vehicles (hence no small trucks) -- and not entirely sensibly. Have a look: 2011 and 2023 Ford Ranger:
@Mummabear they do! first you charge the lithium with an app-driven and expensive car charging infrastructure, then it catches fire. Or you drive it through a puddle and it catches fire. Or you park it next to another earthsaving vehicle that catches fire, and yours catches fire in solidarity. Or you look at it funny and it... 💥
Traveling While Fat 🤣 Prior to the age of train travel, traveling while fat was limited to able bodied people without exceptional effort (carriages, etc.) or boats.
I think I can solve this problem for everyone: If your BMI is high enough that you need a seatbelt extended, you get to walk and only walk, where-ever it is you were going. No more fat people compression packed / compression packing others on busses, planes, trains. 💫
... what if we applied a carbon tax to fat people?
There's a weight to fuel requirement: a car with a solo driver, vs. the same car with all 5 seats and the trunk filled result in different fuel consumption. Ditto planes.
Therefore, we could charge fat people a carbon tax based on the difference between their optimal weight and their present weight, and let them eat the difference.
We could butter it and slide it through by making the carbon argument.
