No disrespect for anyone lived experience, but it's physically impossible for me to take posts like "the fediverse isn't safe for x demographic" seriously when you live within an hour or two flight away from like 3 major world conflicts and a neighbors national TV is calling for the city you live in to be nuked. Sorry if your anarchist social media experience is scary.
How to make the fediverse safe: I don't know, make a CoC or a block list or something. How to make me safe: kill hundreds of thousands of heavily armed men coming to enslave me.
Since shame is so rampant in society as the chief tool of coercive control, it pays for us to be aware of how shame works, especially since many of us are abuse victims and we tend to assume, even subconsciously that any attempt to shame us is legitimate. Shame is an internal emotion that helps us know if we've betrayed ourselves, our integrity and our values. When others shame us it it's important to be aware if they are attempting to restore our integrity or if they're power tripping over us.
*Sudden memory of trying to use a flash site in Firefox on Linux with an open source driver, a 6 year old low-end graphics card and 256mb of mismatched ram I've randomly put in the wrong slots. In 2007*
You young people who don't remember flash, If there's anything keeping Steve Jobs from burning in hell for all eternity, it's killing it by not supporting it on iOS, literally the only time a walled garden has been useful for humanity.
Because the "anarchist" with the soviet sniper girl avatar(itself from a Russian fascist propaganda film) gets boosted in my TL quite often, just a casual reminder that in the Russian cultural sphere, the only relevant political belief to determine if you're a fascist or not is are you pro or anti-Russian. You can literally have a swastika tattooed on your forehead and not be considered a fascist if you're pro-Russian and you can be a gay Jewish anarchist and considered one if you're anti-Russia
PS I will not be lectured on misogyny with someone with Soviet military propaganda in their avatar, sorry, especially while the political legacy of that regime is currently actively committing genocide. Sorry, not sorry. Go eat Putins cock.
@nova I can see how from an American perspective racism and capitalism seem inherently linked, but from the perspective of somebody born in a country where the socialist government expelled 300,000 undesirable people on ethnic and religious grounds*, they definitely seem much more orthogonal.
*straight up ultimatum to leave the country or assimilate into the dominant ethnic group by force, no joke, we barely dodged a Yugoslavia, thank the gods for the Berlin wall falling https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Revival_Process
@andrea Also, rereading the Wikipedia article (every time I do there's more information), the number of Roma in Bulgaria was a state secret. Just like Marx intended, I'm sure :) @nova
@nova I started my serious programming education essentially through the Y Combinator media ecosystem(Hackers&Painters, PG's essays, Hacker News, PGs twitter) in the late 00s, and even picked my favorite language to this day(lisp) that way. The assumptions and worldview of SV is my starting off point. Deprogramming from all that and going back(but this time less naively) to my teen punk/anarchist/FSF roots took a while but was worth it. I'm a better techie for it.
@nova I've been trying to move to the fediverse since 2016(pre-mastodon). Glad to finally make it. A few people I've known for years I'll miss, maybe they'll make their way here eventually, maybe not.
