Mastodon is a wonderful alternative and I'm so glad I found a community here.
Huge 👏 to you for making it happen.

Anyone who ever thought Trump would be tough on China does not understand his obvious "Great Power" worldview
Or, know his background dealing with the Chinese. From making his branded clothes to selling them overpriced apartments.
Here he is ten years ago, rambling on about his love for China

True. The filibuster is a problem and certainly not what the founders envisioned.
My point is that repealing/reforming the filibuster is secondary to reforming the Senate itself.
Requiring a supermajority of 60% to pass a law is a perfectly reasonable and democratic requirement, just like requiring two houses to pass a bill.
The problem of the filibuster is that the US Senate is so deeply unrepresentative and totally captured by business interests.
If we're making wishes, I would fix the Senate before I worry about the filibuster.
100%, he will
It is a widely accepted fact that Trump is transactional. So, the only question is who will reward Trump more:
- Taiwan, to defend itself or
- China, to betray Taiwan
C'mon now
If Britain must appease the fragile ego of Trump, then let's do it condemning violence and supporting a free press.
I would expect the same message from a Tory PM if it were Biden or Obama
I've gotta disagree
Sure, age verification can be implemented terribly. It can empower fascist techbros.
But as a concept, it is a critical part of public safety when done right.
Think of IRL, where thousands of foods, medicines, products and services have 3 layers of regulation - some things are banned, some are age gated and some are allowed but regulated.
We need to accept that reality and find a way to safely implement in the online world.
Amazingly, some people still believe the key to relations with Trump are to appease harder.

Patriarchy predates capitalism, so that's not the root cause.
There will always be a huge audience looking for easy answers to "what success means & how to get there" - when that answer advantages them.
This is an eternal battle that plays on human nature. It's what got us patriarchy, nationalism, colonialism and religious warfare.
The answer a society gives to that question is typically what holds the society together. The #manosphere is an effort to change our society.
Surely, nothing to see here.

Regulatory capture is a real issue.
But if you can keep a functional democracy, you can keep it in check.
With a corporate system, you have *no* checks unless there is government regulation...which requires...a functional democracy.
@ChrisMayLA6
The entire rational for privatising utilities is investment.
Private companies underinvest to benefit a small number of major shareholders.
Government entities underinvest to fund other programs or keep tax rates lower.
Which model provides the greater social good? Which is most open to public demand?
