The development workstations from Adlink either liquid cooling or a non-standard heatsink. If you DIY a system using other boards out there, you would have to figure out how to adapt another heatsink or you're limited to 1U or 2U heatsinks found in servers that don't work well in a tower configuration.

@mac84tv @breadbin I have a Mean Well 5V 4A power supply that came with my MultiSystem kit and seems to be highly recommended if you use external USB drives or any add-ons that draw a bit of power.

I would highly recommend getting a fan to cool it, as the passively-cooled case from MA gets pretty toasty after 10-15 minutes of use.

@breadbin @mac84tv I haven't played with the computer MiSTer cores, but it's really amazing to see what has been created and matured over the past few years.

I have two right now, one installed on a MiSTer MultiSystem v1 board and simple Monster Joysticks "case". The other one is in the living room and is in a Mister Addons passively-cooled case.

I want to set up the former with a 4:3 LCD monitor in my room to experiment with the computer cores and dedicate the latter for arcade and console cores.

Watching @CraftComputing's video on the 45HomeLab HL15 server. For around $2200 for a full-build server with 32 GB of RAM that can support 15x 3.5" hard drives is a lot better than the TrueNAS Mini XL+ 8x 3.5" hard drives with 64 GB of RAM at about $3000.

If the HL15 were out when I was building up my new NAS, I probably would have gone with that over the TrueNAS X+ that I picked up. The X+ configuration has 32 GB of RAM, same as the HL15.

The HL15 has fewer CPU cores (6) vs the X+/XL+'s 8 cores, but the X+/XL+ are Intel C3000-series Atom cores versus full Xeon cores. Plus, you can stuff the HL15 with a lot more RAM, network cards and other PCIe cards. The tradeoff is size and noise, of course.
