I still can’t believe that we have photographs from other planets. Like, landscapes on Mars or even Pluto.

@thomasfuchs Values always have to be rounded or truncated for display. It's always a lie. This isn’t really any different from rounding up or down, no? Of course, if you have 3 choices, each choice is actually .9 at the end, and you truncate, and the last choice is 2%, you you can end up doubling the last item with the imprecisions. So I hope they try to be a bit cleverer.

We need an actual, honest-to-goodness “Snow Xcode”. I have this error. For over 20 years Xcode has never shown the actual symbols when complaining about undefined symbols.

But now, double-clicking it or choosing “Reveal in Log" doesn’t do anything either.

Give your developers some time to fix all those bugs your QA surely already found, Apple?!

Fun fact: The Proto-Germanic word for “dance” has been lost to history. The word Tanz/Dans apparently came to modern Germanic languages via French.

The German translation of Darkwing Duck's “Let's get dangerous”, “Zwo, Eins, Risiko!” (“2, 1, risk!”) is so much punchier than the original.

Does The Incomparable‘s Flash Flashcast ever get better about cavalierly spoiling non-Flash franchises ? I‘m in Season 1 and luckily I‘d seen the future Arrow seasons they referenced, but among other unrelated things I‘ve now had The Prestige spoiled for me as well.

I don't really follow racing, but having lived in the area (and biked past it many times), I hadn’t realized the Hockenheimring wasn’t in use anymore for Formula 1. AIUI it's still available for people to race on, though, so "abandoned" in this video's title is over-selling it quite a bit:

TIL that the original IBM PC keyboard had a pencil tray along the top where today's full-size keyboards have the F-Keys. (The F-Keys were at the left of the keyboard, vertical) #retroComputing

I'm Uli, an iOS and macOS programmer by trade for a large car manufacturer. In the past I have ported several large apps from Carbon to Cocoa.

I'm a big fan of #HyperCard and am working on a HyperCard clone named @stacksmith in my spare time.

I also like retro-programming on Macs under System 7, and recently on a lark ported AppKit to it too (https://github.com/uliwitness/AppKitForClassic).

@fledermama @Cheatha For about 3 months, Heidelberg had a bath supplies shop named "Bad Design" on Bahnhofstr., before they realized what their sign could be read as and changed name to ... "Bath and More” I think? Doesn't seem like the store still exists, sadly.

TIL: If you are under 23 years of age, there has never been a day in your life where all humans have been on planet Earth. (because there's always been someone on ISS since then)

Short reminder: From today, for a week, Europe is already on winter time, while the US are still on Daylight Saving Time (DST).

So if you have recurring appointments with people from the other continent: European appointments will be 1 hour later for US folks, and US appointments will be *one hour earlier* for Europeans.

@thomasfuchs I have a box of those in the attic -- German layout though. Also the Apple Extended Keyboard II, which is much nicer than that cheap thing.

TIL that movie "trailers" are named thus because they were originally shown *after* the movie, as advertisements for what to watch next.

I never even thought about how wrong this word is for something shown often even before the movie is even released.

@thomasfuchs I'd even say it's enough to just write a lot. My writing improved so much when I had the nerve to actually write. Make mistakes, re-read my work, do the next one better.

These days all I do is read about writing and I feel my writing has never been worse. No longer that feeling of "this is as good as I'll get it" and more often just "OK, I've spent too much time on this, let's just publish it in this way I don't really like".
