Third time today that Nightmare the cat steps on the power button of my Chromebook, then looks directly at me as it powers off.
Anyone who thinks cats don't get cause and effect needs to live with a cat or two.

Help save Webcomic Name "oh no!" blob?
Alex Norris has been giving us all joy and giggles with their lovely pink blob for a long time; for many years now, they've been fighting a legal battle with a shitty publisher that has pulled an outrageous rights grab.
Alex has a fundraising deadline on Monday October 9th to continue fighting for their rights. Can you help? No amount is too small.

They are not just saying it out loud, they have been screaming it from the rooftops: they are happy to let you die if they can squeeze a few pennies off your corpse.
Re Drew Barrymore crossing the picket line:

Remember that once non-WGA writers cross the picket line, they won't be able to join the union later, should they want or need to. It's worth reminding them of this.
(This is a thread)
So, like always, the same people going, "but sex trafficking!" and "protect the children!" are actually complicit with actual, literal rape, so long it's their pals doing it.
Someone needs to audit Kushner's 'anti trafficking" foundation, and find out who's pocketing the money.
ETA: what SylphAnne said
Found via Joshua P. Hill on twitter: "I think a lot of us who grew up in this era where unions have been weakened literally don’t know that strong unions can do stuff like reverse you getting fired. And we should."
#SupportUnions #SupportWorkers
ETA: Joshua Hill has a substack titled "newmeans", where he talks a lot about labor.
_The Princess Bride_ flopped, and it's now one of the most beloved films in the U.S.
_Firefly_ was dropped after 14 episodes, people saw it in syndication reruns and it became a cult classic.
Goodbye to that era, I guess.
Good morning, #TeamHydr8; it's Tuesday, and for many of us in the U.S. it's also a holiday. Whether it's one for your or not, may it be a good day. Take your vitamins, drink water, be kind.

#IndieAuthors #Kindle #Royalties @romancelandia @ScribblingSandy
Heads up: royalty rates for indie titles on amazon have been changed down to 35% from 70%
Apparently they can be switched back, but you have to do it manually, and keep your eye on that.
Amazon is not a partner you can trust.
Edited to add: Emma Barry shared these on twitter (re-posted with permission)
#IndieAuthors, please share: so-called #ArtificialIntelligence was trained by scrapping Smashwords--literally thousands of books; genre romance is disproportionately represented: if you had books there in 2015, your books may have been scrapped for illegal use without your consent:
""we find evidence that BookCorpus directly violated copyright restrictions for hundreds of books that should not have been redistributed through a free dataset."
Please understand: these fuckers have been scrapping content, including copyrighted, clearly marked, commercial, published content, not 'just' fanfiction--titles from @CourtneyMilan from @CathyPegau from @jodywallace AmyJoCousins and many others; there are close to 20 thousand titles they've been scrapping for the past eight years or so.

@whetstone They are good people.
@whetstone I would suggest, if you can find the post, to copy the link (it's also an option when you click on the three dots at the bottom right), then send the link in a private message to mom with an explanation.
@whetstone Not dense at all, it takes some time to get used to how things work here.
@whetstone that works, of course. If the post was super offensive and the instance doesn't care, you may want to tell @/mom (the admin here) about it. They're good about keeping an eye out in case blocking an instance for all of us seems reasonable/necessary. (sending them the link to the offensive post via a private @ works for this purpose)
@whetstone You should be able to report the post by clicking on the three dots on the bottom right; one of the choices is "report". Reports go directly to each server admins, automatically.
@whetstone @mel_thegreat If the "mores of the time" were universally accepted in the past, they would still be the mores today; change happens because there have always been people who've known what's wrong, and who've worked to create enough community consensus to move institutions/the law.
Militant decency.
