Libertarianism misrepresents ”Democratization”

When you build apps & services that allow people to do things that would be illegal (like operate taxis or move money without trace) it’s not democratic.

Democracy presumes & requires a system where the will of the elected majority is enforced.

Libertarians instead build systems where those who do not like the will of the majority can hide and evade enforcement.

That they don’t make sense and they lie follows from this. It is not WHAT is being made policy but for WHOM.

Whom remains always constant, and what can change. They are not like you. They don’t even see the world the same as you.

They literally conflate their two political parties with the whole truth of politics.

They result in a mishmash where they can say anything about anything and appear sharp and witty, yet has no application beyond their particular economic power structure.

We hurtling at full speed toward an age where our children will inherit a world perhaps more precarious ever since the 1800’s. If current progress continues, they might very well own nothing & be forced to rent everything. Most aspects of their lives will be digital, but all their access to commerce, media, culture & communications will be mediated by private digital monopolies who charge them rent.

Not only that, but they might not be able to exercise a right of ownership to any of their outputs on those platforms either. Finally, at any moment all of it could be turned over – without their permission – to train #AI systems that replicate & resell their image and likeness for other people’s benefit, receiving nothing in return.

To add insult to injury – contrary to the common libertarian argument – after the election of Donald Trump in the USA we have clear evidence that private companies will turn when pushed and drop support for equal rights & justice when asked to do so. Companies like Meta, X and Oracle have simply removed accounts & services from many that try to use them to criticise whoever is in power and restrict access to queries & search terms not judged favourable.

So president Trump wants to be Putin? I predict he'll roll back the tariffs mumbling something like: "Our goals have been achieved" in due time...

Or.. He's aiming to crash the economy on purpose to decimate the middle class, with his goons lapping the property only to rent it back to them later.

This seems to happen to a lot of people in software development, especially the talented ones, quite reliably.

Some grow out of it eventually, but a toxic behaviour model like that is all too common, and also all too tolerated.
