I sent one of my dead Commodore 1541 floppy drive heads to someone with access to a high resolution CT scanner. They did a lot of HARD work and came back with super high resolution scans of the head and a possible place where the coil has been damaged. I am SUPER impressed.
New video: Let's Code MS DOS 0x26: AdLib Drum Machine
Programming the OPL2 FM chip on the original AdLib card can be a bit tedious. Join me in this episode to learn how to program the drums on the AdLib card to create a simple sequencer or drum machine. In the future we will also look at the melodic instruments, but for now we try to create some nice percussion!
I think Wario Land 2 uses more than four shades of gray. The DMG only supported four grayscales, but I think I can count more in this shot. Probably they use some temporal dithering, e.g. mixing two different shades in alternating frames to get a third shade. Does anyone have additional information? #nintendo#gameboy
New video: Original GameBoy: IPS Mod Horizontal Lines
The IPS display mod for the original GameBoy from a couple of weeks ago already developed a fault. bright horizontal lines run through the display, and it seems a full replacement of the LCD panel is needed. It seems these mods are a bit fragile. Also the display lens is a bit crooked and needs fixing. So off to another round of DMG modding!
@thanius Yeah, that's probably what I am going to do. If I knew which voltages have to be present for the device to power up properly, I could test for that.
So this red DMG doesn’t power on all the time. Sometimes it crashes during gameplay. I read that it might be due to a bad power board. I tested all the electrolytics out of circuit and they are fine. So… replacing the whole power board…? Or anything else I can check/replace? #nintendo#gameboy#retrogaming#repair
@TechConnectify I totally get you. And I hope you stay here on Mastodon. You are one of the accounts that really contributes a lot, both here and over on YT. Thank you.
The card that started it all. And by it I mean the retro soundcard revival. This one was reverse engineered by @tubetime and it still features the illegitimate AdLib logo. I assembled it myself and even drilled holes for the volume control and headphone jack. #retrocomputing#retrogaming#adlib
