@ChrisMayLA6 Fair point. Do we try to move the people closer to the straighto economicus, or do we move the economicus closer to mirror the people?

@inscius Brilliant! Reminds me of when librarians in sweden wanted to burn Pippi Långstrump books since "negerkung i söderhavet" was written in them.

@gemlog @ChrisMayLA6 Switzerland has had their own card payment system for a long time. A quick start would be to copy it, and then integrate it across countries. BIS is based in Switzerland, maybe they could help?

@p @lain Incorrect, you did not argue in logic, and clearly your reading comprehension is lacking. I recommend a good course in reading and reading comprehension, before you start to dabble with logic.
Your fundamental mistake is confusing logic with language. Logic, can only show the relationship beween terms, but the meaning of the terms, which you do not understand, has nothing to do with logic. Additionally, logic won't help you pick your premises.
Shooo young boy, off to school with you! ✝️ 🇺🇸 🇮🇱

@phnt @p @lain This is not so interesting. I am not a fan of the matrix project. If I needed a chat, I'd go with irc which you can run on a raspberry pi at home.
If you need to cater to young people, maybe mattermost might give them that sweet web 3.0 feeling?
Generally though, anything that primarily relies on a web interface is not so good.

@p @lain You are comitting hte fallacy of reasoning in absolute. I did not say "all, now and will".
Odyssey has grown enormously. Young no longer have facebook accounts. I think it is not controversial to think that people will leave discord as well.

@lain It is good! Because it might lead to people choosing self-hosted open source alernatives instead of centralized corporate solutions with built in surveillance.

Excellent article, highly recommended!
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_democracy
After reading... can you honestly say that you live in a democracy, or is it more correct to say that you live in a political aristocracy (where politics has become a family business) or perhaps a kakistocracy, where the least competent float to the top?
Yet, despite that, historically, comparing the development of material welfare among the "liberal" west and the rest of the traditionally non-democratic parts of the world, we see a much higher standard of living in democratic countries, than non-democratic, if we look at the population at large, and not at the leaders.

Back on the ground after a flight back with Ryainair, the most revolting of airlines. As always, if you have any other option, always remember to boycott ryanair.
What was surpsigin though, was what I experienced when I was boarding.
I always give the gate personnel my usual lecture about how excessive ID controls is not only possibly illegal, it also is authoritarian and kills the free society. I ask them to imagine having to show ID when buying food, and how they then would do it, if their ID was taken away or blocked.
I usually get angry looks, tired looks, perhaps a word of abuse or threats that I will be thrown out of the airport, but not tonight!
At the gate was this little arabian guy, and he started to smile during my lecture.
After I was done he said "I agree! Those f*cking EU bastards will control us with the new EU digital wallet".
I didn't know what to say, so I thanked him, said I agreed with him, and wished him well.
I now wonder, did he agree or was this a super well designed de-escalation technique?
I'm leaning towards it being his opinion, since corporate de-escalation seldom, if ever, is that smooth.

@inscius @carolen Try freetube, they have built in ad protection that sometimes automatically detects ads in youtube channels and skips it.

@inscius @carolen This is the truth! I'm still waiting for the first swedish company to reverse the trend and release something similar to the great jeans ad "I've got great jeans". That would be an amazing moment in swedes starting to reclaim their culture.

@amerika @freepatriot @KeepTakingTheSoma Could be that some individuals are resistant, but society is a game of averages.
In terms of individuals, I suspect they are rare, and that to find them would be very difficult. Then, once found, persuading them to take on power would be even more difficult.
I know one person who's in the 100 million EUR range who turned down the opportunity to become a minister since he saw no upside in it, and he preferred the pleasures of doing business instead.
As for the human being at large, some experiments that indicate that power corrupts are:
The Stanford prison experiment, the Robber's cave experiment, and studies on power and corruption (https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/abs/10.1002/ejsp.2134).
I can add that in order to see how this is true, most, if not all of us here, need look no further than our day to day politicians or middle managers. I think the fact that absolute power corrupts, is almost beyond doubt, and solving this psychological problem (if it is possible) is the key to building thriving socities.
With all of the above, it is of course not proven that not a single person exists with the capability of resisting the temptations of power, but I am skeptical. Since power is dangerous, I prefer a cautios approach here, and personally assume that we are all susceptible to this mental bug, until proven otherwise.

@amerika @freepatriot @KeepTakingTheSoma I think it has been criticized, but I also think that it has not invalidated and eradicated all knowledge resulting from it.
Yes, the function of leader exists, and leaders do get things done, but the original point I'm making is that power corrupts, and that is completely compatible with the fact that leaders exist and that leaders get things done. if anything, a study of this phenomenon, might yield techniques and knowledge which makes leaders better, and which makes us better able to protect ourselves against bad leaders, by avoiding, exiling or not voting for them.

@amerika @freepatriot @KeepTakingTheSoma In the near term, this will be the case. But fast forward 300 years or so, and we will have expanded to mars, the moon, and beyond. Extrapolating scientific progress more or less guarantees this.

@amerika @freepatriot @KeepTakingTheSoma True. Moving prisons to africa or albania as some european countries are now exploring is a great step in the right direction.
When it comes to coming back, border controls, and yanking their citizenship will help somewhat.
The last point, the exiles terrorizing other countries is a problem though.

@amerika @freepatriot @KeepTakingTheSoma Let me add to the idea of removal, your idea of exile. I think that is a good start, and also something which has been practiced quite often, by societies, throughout history.
To a certain extend, we today, "exile" our unwanted to prisons.
