I had a breakthrough on my Apple II ebooks (a hot sector of the tech world, I know...)

It's not quite what I'd been going for, which was to modify one of other scripts to produce the ebooks. Instead, I thought I could maybe get my Apple II to act like my proportional typewriter. This has been quite fun to program.

I don't know if anyone else here uses #Trisquel, but if you do... have you had trouble running 'apt update' today?

If you're an #anime fan, I need your help finding a title. I haven't seen this particular anime, but I wanted to look into it.

It was an anime in the 80s or 90s about people living during the end of the world. It was apparently very chill and slice-of-life: lots of bike riding and visiting the local shop, that sort of thing. The nature of the cataclysm was left vague, but involved rising sea levels.

If this sounds familiar, let me know. I thought I'd give it a watch.

I've been working to have my HTML ebooks look nice in the Dillo browser (@dillo). Dillo is a very fast and lightweight graphical browser with no JS support.

The good news is: you don't need all the UX talent in the world to get your site looking half-decent on Dillo.

@dillo Lastly, I will give a shout-out to the css used by @libreleah's static site generator for Libreboot.org. No dark mode, but it defaults to dark colors. 2.6K full, 1.6K minified. https://libreboot.org/global.css It looks pretty darn good in Dillo.

@dillo Second, check out simple.css by @kev. Simple.css has the advantage of a smooth aesthetic that's a bit closer to how people think a web page "should" look. Dark mode is built-in. 13.6K full, 9.3K minified. https://simplecss.org/

@killyourfm I had this experience with the show Daria. The DVD version is almost a different show, because all the licensed songs were replaced. Some of the jokes don't make sense without the original songs.

I'm planning a series of YouTube shorts for poetry, in promotion of an upcoming book. Every video will have captions from an SRT file.

What I'm wondering is... should I also have burned-in text for the videos, where every word is put onscreen in a big, colorful font? That seems to be what most YouTube shorts have.

What I care about is accessibility. What is the best practice?

Today I learned that the payphone at Arapahoe & 30th in Boulder is working again. Not only that, but this phone will accept incoming calls. Incoming calls are somewhat unusual for these later-model payphones. They also have dot-matrix screens and card readers.
