If the worst does not actually come to pass, I don't think I'm going to be sitting here going "oh noooo I can't believe I strengthened my communities, made sure I'm up to date on my healthcare needs, and volunteered for causes I believe in"

Sometimes the forecasted storms uneventfully pass by, in which case you're left with a little extra food on hand, some jugs of water for the next storm, and some cozy blankets to snuggle up in.

Anyway, this has been a message to those choosing to mock people who are taking steps to prepare for a Trump presidency.

My whole life, I've lived in New England: the land of blizzards and ice storms. When there's a storm on the forecast, we prepare. Stock up on bottled water and nonperishables, refill prescriptions that are running low, charge the flashlights and electronic devices, have a stack of blankets on hand, make sure there's fuel in the car and (if you're lucky) generator, restack the indoor wood pile.

Interesting: in the government’s sentencing submission for FTX’s Gary Wang, they note he has “created a tool for the detection of potential fraud in the stock market” and is “in the process of developing a similar tool for cryptocurrency markets” for government use.

@josgeluk i was perfectly happy to write some code to do this for me, but in order to set custom shipping rates you have to buy the expensive plan!

Today’s Shopify irritation: I send stickers with a plain old $0.73 stamp, but my art prints require more expensive shipping if I want to ensure they don’t get creased in transit.

If someone orders a print AND stickers, there is no way to tell Shopify that I will combine them into the same package unless I pay for the $300/month plan. Surely this is a fairly basic scenario?

@juergen_hubert @mekkaokereke unfortunately crypto payment systems screw them over too, and introduce added risks as far as traceability. the solution is going to have to be stronger protections for sex workers and against debanking. as with most problems, technology alone is not an adequate solution.

@SpaceLifeForm yeah — I've built up this list of feeds over years and so I'm used to the volume and pretty good at skimming through it, but it's a lot to just suddenly jack in to 😅
