@sun I received Amazon Prime subscription from my Telecom operator and I gave it to an acquaintance. He complained that even after the subscription you need to pay for some of the individual shows separately. WTF. -

Trisquel 12 is very close to being released. I think I'll install it in my 2019 laptop that's running Debian 12 right now.
In this machine, wifi chip is freedom incompatible, but it has an Ethernet port. What I do now is, whenever I'm at home where I have access to Ethernet, I boot into the Linux-libre kernel. I also keep a copy non-free Linux kernel so that I can have wifi in case of emergencies.
My guess is I can keep a similar setup. I can get the non-free linux kernel from Ubuntu archive. Or if necessary I can always build it from source. -

@Stomata @devilonger Considering that rabies has 100% fatality rate, there's no point not taking the rabies vaccine. -

I want to do GNU from scratch, so that I get a better understanding how gnu system comes together. But, I'm afraid it'll take days even with my i7 machine with 8 GiB of RAM, totally disrupting my sleep.
Is 8 GiB RAM even enough? -

Mastodon's follow hashtag feature was actually very useful. When will Pleroma have something like that? -

I decide on the basis of two criteria:
1. Does it work with javascript disabled?
2. Can you search anonymously with tor?
If "No" any one of both accounts, then definitely a bad choice. -

Something similar happened in India. The convict was pardoned in supreme court.

I don't know why people complain about hybernation not working in GNU+Linux, I have swap space >= RAM, and it's working every time.
It's quite nice, especially for my laptop that doesn't have battery. I make it go to hybernation, unplug the charger, go to new place, replug the charger, and resume from where I left off. As if it's coming back from sleep. -

@mangeurdenuage Really? This machine also using Linux-libre, and it's *old* (2014). But works fine.
I'll see if it works with my new machine (2019), but it doesn't have proper swap partition configured, so can't test right now. -

That's why people use stable distribution like Trisquel. -

I have setup syncthing folders with my friends. Now I can share large files with them, without needing to upload it to some server.

I guess the problem is some people would not want to install "another app" just so they can receive files from me. (Although they probably have more than 50 apps already installed in their rectangle, all of them proprietary). -

after I press the power button friend's machine takes 18 second to show grub menu. I have enabled beeping sound in grub, so I hear a beep when grub starts. I hear the beep at 13 second.
Why is UEFI taking 13 second to load grub? This is a 11th gen i3 machine with nvme SSD. I have disabled everything in the boot order. I don't see any other setting in UEFI settings that I can change. -

@sicp Two of my machines use grub. For example, I have a Pentium 3558U (with sata ssd), it takes 6.10 s for the beep and 6.41 s for grub menu to load. Even less with the other machine. -

Weird, C-<backspace> deletes a word, but C-<CapsLock> which has been remapped to backspace in workman, doesn't.
Any idea, @Suiseiseki ? -

> some keyboards have multiple keys wired up to the same wire and therefore certain key combinations go unrecognized
Interesting idea. As I mentioned in my previous post a friend gave me her laptop for testing. It's weird that in her keyboard, with qwerty layout, C-a, C-t are not recognized at all, even though they are recognized when pressed individually, or C-v, C-c are recognized fine. One would assume C-a and C-t are not that uncommon combinations so they should be recognized.
Another thing is, I was playing super tux kart on it, and again when I pressed <space bar> when up arrow was already pressed, space was going unrecognized.
My first impression was maybe I configured keyboard wrong when I installed GNU/Linux, but then why would those keys work fine when pressed individually? Now that you mentioned this point I'll keep that in mind when I do further testing later. And if it's really as that you mention, I will tell her to replace that garbage keyboard.
