Oh it serves a valuable purposes in society. I took a legit online Yale course to educate myself (actually did, very educational).
Society lives on a bed of uncertainty and being able to buy potatoes regularly depends on a bed of actuarial science to survive without delving into war every winter shock.

Lol it's a free Yale course online. Check it out. Won't advertise it because I'm not a corporate simp. But the information and rigor is solid. Recommended to educate yourself on the modern financial world, whether you want to abolish it or grow from it. -

You get out of it what you put into it of course. But I genuinely can pick up a pamphlet from some dumbass "retirement management" company and evaluate the terms they're offering. I can cut through the bullshit. I don't expect I'll be working as a loan adviser anytime soon, but just being able to say "eh these terms are a little above market but still what can you offer me" is valuable life skills. -
