If your elderly friends or family have started taking supplements,it may be useful to figure out exactly what they're taking. A multivitamin plus another supplement might be too much of some vitamins or minerals.
Also, some folks are taking too much of things on purpose and may need an intervention.
In related news, my dads vitamin D results came back and I don't fucking understand how to read or interpret them. They're out of normal range so this means what exactly?
Dad is moving into the care home today. My brother is taking him to the intake and I am "supervising" the movers. I know the answers to zero questions …
I am fully committed to making it awkward for anybody who works for a company that exploits vulnerable people.
"Oh, I don't work in the division that actively preys on the elderly," yeah keep explaining that. Harming my family - harming any vulnerable people - is a red line.
Everything I can think of to help is actively impeded in one way or another by fucking YouTube misinformation. Because the goal of disinfo channels is to increase isolation and vulnerability, and they're really fucking good at doing that.
And Google knows. And they have made an affirmative decision that this is fine. This is what they're for. This is how they make their money.
Media literacy is great and a good idea, but also not an adequate answer. Especially not for people who are vulnerable. There needs to be accountability and justice for people harmed by disinformation, especially health disinformation. There's a reason that we have licensing scheme for doctors instead of relying on a "buyer beware" model. Health influencers should not be a thing.
Also, bloody hell, supplements should be regulated. Like, why are dangerous doses of things for sale in the first place??
