   @KurtHohmann 😆 I do enjoy a sprout. I moved from mid to west Cornwall two years ago and kept meaning to go to Montol. However death (my dear FIL) and sickness (me with RSV) put a hamper to this on the last two midwinters. This year, I finally got to go. It was great fun! But I missed the sprout fight as I had to catch the train home.

   It’s a good mix of Cornish heritage and old Christmas traditions along with new traditions being made. The fight between the Oak and Holly King is a good watch.

   Hong Kong gets to about 10°C (50°F) in its winter months.

   I kept telling my friends who moved there how it would somehow "feel colder" than the subzero winters they were used to.

   Few believed me at first. But after the first winter there, they understood why: the walls are not insulated; there is no indoor heating anywhere. It's 10°C even at home.

   It's not cold outside during Hong Kong winters. It's cold inside. (Not sure if it's the same for Tasmania.)

   Friday started at a much more reasonable time of 07:30 which would have been a blessing if I had managed to get anything like a decent nights sleep. But the night was disturbed both by an utter inability to fall asleep & the cries of one of the children next door which went on for ages in the early hours of the morning.

   The morning was spent perusing various tasks with my head all over the place.

   I have finally got confirmation that we will have a new boiler fitted next Wednesday, so I can rest easy until Wednesday morning when hopefully I won’t have to chase this on the day!

   Mrs S has been beavering away thru her mums paperwork to track down the critical papers necessary for the current circumstances.

   This afternoon we chilled out & caught up on some of TV shows & treated ourselves to our usual Friday takeaway despite the cold!

   Final Thoughts.

   I am tired to my bones, but I think that things have moved forward satisfactorily today & I hope that that will allow me to sleep tonight!

   Another busy day tomorrow, we’re off on a mission to start brining some order to my MiLs house now that she is gone. We’re also planning a last pre-Christmas trip to Costco™ & possibly get some other shopping in on our way home.

   It will be nice to be in a house with the heating on, if only for a short while!

   In the moment of writing these words, I'm living the toughest moments in my life. I'm looking around me, all I see is rubble! Yes, we live between the rubble. I don't have a garden with beautiful flowers, but rubble that remains of our home.

   It's heartbreaking to see your home devastated in front of your eyes. It was a beautiful home a month ago, but now it's nothing.

   40 years ago, people bought houses on three times minimum wage.

   Ten years ago, my spouse just barely made enough for us to live in a house and rent out the basement.

   Today, we barely have any money outside of renting a room, and we need to make twelve times minimum wage to buy a home.

   It isn't spending on Netflix, coffee from Tims, or avocado toast that's making the "middle class" broke. It's fucking greedy billionaires who rig fucking capitalism.
