@skinnylatte for most of the 90s I don't think I knew anybody who was.

But I was living in a liberal arts college town, so that could be a factor.

I like my little customer service rituals ("hello how are you," "this is yours," "thanks and take care") because—well—because I like little rituals.

They also provide little checkpoints to pause and confirm all is well before rushing to the next. I pause so I can go faster.

If I cut out my rituals, I'd be so much slower. I've tried.

Kinda wish I got a higher res image, but still. Pretty nifty sunset and the clouds saying "F this particular spot right here."

A known thing, but I’ll say it anyways: credit scores are weird and stupid.

The month after I start paying on delinquent bills, my FICO drops 70 points because I have too much debt?

The debt is less than it was last month. Whatever, magic number box.

    *mumble* *grumble* opaque algorithms

It was a good day at work.

I shared that I have family from Finland, and my new Ukrainian coworker was very excited for the opportunity to talk smack about Russia.

@lanodan @cwebber just imagined a turtle drawing a program interpreted by a turtle running on a VM drawn by a turtle rendering on a virtual display drawn by OW MY BRAIN

    LOGO or zoological. Either way.

@cwebber can we solve it in Logo? No reason. I just thought it would be cool if the solution involved turtles.

@inthehands @jenniferplusplus oh. I think this culture tone—and my sort of willful distaste for it?—are a major part of why my brain decided an indeterminate break for professional tech was called for.

@skinnylatte It's absolute madness. Something along the lines of "being aware of racism is racist"?

I bumped into this thinking from someone several years back who I suddenly no longer wanted to pursue a romantic relationship with.

@raganwald @mhoye silly me not being intimately familiar with fascism or dystopias and on first watch thinking that the ignorance and incompetence were just color, not load-bearing requirements.

@villares @orbita isn't it weird how often thought leaders use "democratization" when talking about centralized resources metered out on a pay-per-transaction basis?

@villares that interpretation of democratization—removing skilled work—yeah. Immediately made me think of a quote by Isaac Asimov in 1980.

    Installing a Node-based application via `npx`.

Quite a bit of deprecated, no longer supported, moved, no longer maintained, and sunset notifications.

Cherry on top is at the end "Your Node.js version n is not supported. Please use n-5 (recommended), n-3, or n-1 instead"

I am not filled with confidence.
