@youronlyone No, I take allopurinol, which is effective yet gentler in terms of side effects than febuxostat. It's been around since the 1960's and is well understood. If you've never considered it, you should ask your physician about it!

@youronlyone I have gout and can confirm that when it really flares up, it really is that bad. It's the worst pain I've ever felt, even worse than when my gallbladder almost killed me.

Fortunately, there are inexpensive generic medications that keep it in check, at least for me.
