@fu @nsarwark Are you asking whether it's new that people are catching on to intellectually dishonest arguments, or that such arguments themselves are new?

I don't know whether either is the case, but I do think that we're at or near a polarization peak, and that lends itself to the latter, which in turn to the former.

@nsarwark I'm happy to read essays from perspectives other than my own, but this one lost me by starting out with an intellectually dishonest leftwing caricature of how most people who don't share their views define freedom.

@lain They sent it empty. Turns out they'd have been fine had they ridden down in it. But hindsight is always 20/20, and I get why they chose to send a more reliable reentry vehicle for them.

@nsarwark Without deconstructing the left-populist rhetoric, I agree that people should want to end homelessness. That starts by recognizing that in the majority of cases, solving it is a lot more complicated than just handing out cash to people on the street, and that in many cases it will take the initiation of force against the homeless to coerce them into changing their approach to their own mental health, drug abuse, etc.
