White evangelical Christians have a view on death that is, frankly, impossible for me to understand from outside. They regularly talk about welcoming death, and see things like eagerly encouraging the deadly final reckoning of everyone in the world as a positive that they want to accelerate. This leads to oddities like supporting Zionism because they’re in a hurry to have Jews die in an apocalyptic final battle, which they think is being nice to them? I will readily admit that I can't coherently explain this position; it is hard for me to understand death cults.”

     @nsarwark I'm happy to read essays from perspectives other than my own, but this one lost me by starting out with an intellectually dishonest leftwing caricature of how most people who don't share their views define freedom.

     @stevefoerster @nsarwark I have been seeing more and more of this issue of people hearing/reading things that come from a very different perspective of them and indicating that the speaker/author is being intellectually dishonest. Is it new, or am I just paying attention more?

     @stevefoerster @nsarwark I have no reason to believe any normies are being intellectually dishonest. I was asking if people claiming those who disagree with them are dismissed as being "intellectually dishonest." It sounds like you are saying the labeling which you had done was a side effect of Western political polarization, is that correct?

     @fu @nsarwark Are you asking whether it's new that people are catching on to intellectually dishonest arguments, or that such arguments themselves are new?

     I don't know whether either is the case, but I do think that we're at or near a polarization peak, and that lends itself to the latter, which in turn to the former.
