Does anybody else get sketchy vibes from the #FUTO folks? I mean, there is the fact that their stuff is NOT AT ALL #FreeSoftware, it's source-available proprietary apps. But also... Rossman gives me sketchy vibes too, and (maybe I just don't follow him closely enough but) I don't know why

I really think a privacy-respecting voice IME for #Android is crucial, and I'm gonna be honest, I've come to depend a lot on FUTO Voice Input IME, enough that I want to give it a full-throated recommendation, but I just can't shake the feeling that I'd be recommending something that's going to be a part of some scandal or another

@panos @atomicpoet the "why" is easy. There's a github PR you can find where someone implements admin-configurable post lengths, reviewers are all ready to accept it and everything, and Eugen showed up and was like "Nah, I want the 500 character limit set in stone. Longer posts don't fit with my V I S I O N. PR closed."

@aral @paul @sotolf @arudy X and Wayland are both incomplete pieces of software, in different ways. The difference is that X11's incompleteness comes from core design problems, as opposed to immaturity. As far as we can see here, this isn't a problem with either X11 or Wayland, but a pain from the necessary transition. Wouldn't our efforts be better spent contributing to upstream projects suffering as a result of this transition rather than complain that the software is incomplete or nagging unrelated projects?

@niccolove @popey @simon FWIW I don't follow Lunduke but knew of him and was completely unaware. While I do think this video took it's time a little too much in getting to the point, it was informative, at least to me.

@feditips yes I installed that first... wait a second... maybe if I uninstall and reinstall so that it gets installed AFTER the ActivityPub plugin? 🤔 nope, that didn't fix it 😞
