Redoing my retirement spreadsheet to account for the extra cost of air conditioning. This is like living down south. I have the AC on every single day!

I hate turning it on. It uses so much power, but Pica is very old and so am I and the heat makes us sick.

It's just 36C all day long until the sun sets. This is horrible. And NYC isn't being hit hard compared to most places. It's just always hot.

I used to count how many days I turned on the AC in the summer. I was very proud to keep it under 15. Now I don't count anymore.

Now this one will get all of the "weird biology" freaks excited. Behold! An abandon plant gall covered in multiple species of lichen!

I can't help but think of how it looks like a little planet, like it's a tiny world all to itself...

Plants, insects, fungi, bacteria all interacting to create this.

I don't know why there is this notion that getting shot at helps a candidate. It's "sad" but it's also a sign of political chaos.

I've been thinking of George Wallace who was shot ... then lost. But there was also Gerald Ford.

It's like "The Public" is expected to just respond to events like a dog in an experimental box... no other context, no history, nothing.

Very little has really changed. Media events like conventions and announcements are always to some degree manufactured. You have every right to be concerned, to want to know what's happening. That isn't foolish or trivial.

But consider (please) not *literally* tuning in. Listen with a little delay from a distance. A lot of the nonsense that causes needless stress is filtered out that way and you can be just as informed.

Though I might dance & celebrate when Biden wins, it will not be for him. It'll be in spite of what he & every mealy-mouthed norms-anxious compromiser has done to put us here. And then, when I'm done dancing, (it may take a moment) I will turn around and put my focus in a new place.

I'm filled with optimism because all caution is gone from my body. We can't afford an ounce of that.

That time my dad said "wood doesn't grow on trees!" because I was wasting the scrap wood in the basement workshop.

Letting so much hinge on the motive and identities of shooters seems like it might, just possibly invite more shooters from the class of people who want to be "a part of history."

And in the post consensus reality environment it doesn't matter who did it or why since a portion of people will just choose to assign their own meaning. Because we let this kind of violence speak and be meaningful. Could THAT be a mistake?

You don't need to choose between an "outpouring of sympathy" (that will be spurned rudely) and weatherman cos play (that could put you on a watchlist)

There ARE other options on offer.

Really nothing would be more fitting than if people just lost interest in this quickly. There are lots of shootings in the US, aren't they just a fact of life we are all supposed to accept as the price of freedom?

The term "starter home" is so strange. Buying a home is so difficult as it is.

Who is thinking about any home you manage to buy without going into horrible debt as just a "start" ? A start of what?

It seems like one of those things where rather than say "homes for poor people" we have this goofy fiction that someday I'm gonna move out of the Bronx and buy a condo in Manhattan. No. Some people just aren't ever going to buy a mansion and that's... fine? Or it should be. Right?

I have mixed feelings about putting off everyone with a shred of a conscious from being a landlord.

It's the only path to wealth in the US that isn't a scam.

There are bad landlords and worse landlords. Landlords that fight to exploit more, and those fine with the current level.

IDK. The "industry" is getting worse. It probably shouldn't exist but that's not going to happen any time soon.

Be a landlord. Know everything nasty they say about you is true.
