I don't know why there is this notion that getting shot at helps a candidate. It's "sad" but it's also a sign of political chaos.

I've been thinking of George Wallace who was shot ... then lost. But there was also Gerald Ford.

It's like "The Public" is expected to just respond to events like a dog in an experimental box... no other context, no history, nothing.
