Letting so much hinge on the motive and identities of shooters seems like it might, just possibly invite more shooters from the class of people who want to be "a part of history."

And in the post consensus reality environment it doesn't matter who did it or why since a portion of people will just choose to assign their own meaning. Because we let this kind of violence speak and be meaningful. Could THAT be a mistake?
