here in the states we call them the Canadian wildfires to differentiate them from the wildfires happening south of the 49th parallel. It is no reflection on Canada. It's just geography. I'm in Minnesota and we've been breathing wildfire smoke both from Minnesota and Canada this past week. I lived in Canada once. You're closer to a green new deal. Most Americans envy your politics and healthcare. Canada is what we aspire to be. Only without a King.

I was listening to the current and the DJ was talking about how great this weather is for his wife's tomatoes. But he didn't mention "hey folks, wear a mask today. Breathing will give you cancer". He was cheerful. But sometimes the moment calls for proactive, intelligent response to extreme circumstances.

The humidity dropped, so even though it's 86°F it feels cooler. I saw someone on a bike today. In my neighborhood. Pleasure ride. I weep for their lungs.

friend bought a house site unseen, no inspection, in Seattle. She's had to deal with black mold. She has regrets.

A centrist Democrat just complained to me that Democratic socialists alienate him with our progressive policies. Cry me a **** river. Blocked.

I have to read headlines about how DSA might cost Democrats a seat. I never read headlines about how centerist democrats cost Democrats seats by blocking progressives. Even though that happens far more frequently.

I don't wanna see that toxic 💩 on my timeline. It's depressing. It makes me truly sad when otherwise decent woke people lean in on Jeff Bezos & Amazon. It's unfathomably discouraging.

So before I drop my dog off for eight hours a day with the trainer, I asked for her phone number. She wouldn't give it to me. It's not their policy.

During our last in person session I saw another trainer on their phone with a dog and 30 minutes later they were in the same spot still on their phone.

My trainer also changed the price of our private sessions three times. She quoted me one price then charged me more. When she tried to *double charge* me at our last session, it was the lower $.

My dog Max is reactive and he head butted me in the face smashing my nose during a training session. So I was ready to spend $100/day for 3 to 4 weeks to train him at an all day program.

We've been going once a week for half an hour and although it's expensive, I just want the dog trained. I don't want to feel frightened of him or worried that he's going to hurt someone.

It's a business. They don't answer their phone or relay messages to my trainer. They respond to emails days later.

I got off Facebook in 2015. There was a small window of time when EU regulations changed and Facebook said they would delete my information, not store it, delete it. So I hope that I'm out of their system. But then I go to an Indivisible meeting and they're taking photos of all of us there and putting them on their effing Facebook page. Doxing all of us to Facebook's facial recognition software, which is run through hundreds of databases.

It didn't even occur to them to ask permission.

Unfortunately, that was the last Indivisible meeting I went to and it was several months ago. I told them how I felt about privacy & was treated like an interloper, not an ally.

They are allies. I am a member and there is support there. But all organizing groups need to get the hell off of Facebook, and not organize through discord. People trust their groups like DSA & Indivisible and follow their lead. When they blow off privacy concerns, so do their members.

In Malaysia they add sugar to fruit juice. At least they did the year I lived there. Diabetes was rampant. So I'm glad that folks are thinking about using less sugar there.

H1B fraud looks like employers underpaying workers & locking them into lower pay by not allowing them to accept a better position elsewhere.

The CEO of Palantir "earns" $133M/year. That's a CEO to worker compensation of 26,500. A well paid CEO to earner compensation is 20. CEO Karp steals this from our commons. 56% of Palantir's contracts are with the USA government. This is what corruption looks like.
