It looks like if you use #Thunderbird to access your calendars from #Nextcloud you need to manually set the contacts birthdays calendar as "read-only", otherwise you can't dismiss notifications.
The #FreeSoftware, #FreeData, #FreeCulture, and other communities can make a big difference by moving their communities to #XMPP - whether they are longstanding ones, or new ones.
Yes, there will be pushback. Pushback is the bread and butter of progress. You need to have the strength to keep moving forward no natter what.
Ideally, you will also debridge from proprietary/centralized networks. Or set a timeline for doing so.
I've tried it. It works. More people need to do it.
#XMPP has continued to evolve and improve over the many years I've been using it. But despite the development effort going into it, there aren't as many people joining it as there should.
We can thank hype and neomania for that. These factors ensure that proprietary/centralized networks (the latter includes #Matrix) receive more funding and more code contributors. More funding results in better marketing and stronger network effect.
A couple of weeks ago, #ViMusic stopped working properly. More than every other song failed to play. It looks like at around the same time, the project was archived in the octopus site and disappeared from F-Droid. A fork named #RiMusic exists but that one can't play anything at all. There's an issue opened about it and they said you're supposed to log in. Sadge.
I flashed the new Fedora KDE Plasma Mobile Spin 41 to a PinePhone and it boots!
I already had Tow-Boot, so I just had to start the device while holding down volume-up, and then connect the USB cable and flash with Balena Etcher. WIth verification included, it took more than half an hour, but then again the image was large (11GB uncompressed).
Can't get past the Initial Setup though. First, not everything fits into the screen. Second, I see the Wi-Fi enabled but don't see a way to choose the network (possibly because of the first problem).
Nevertheless, I hope one day soon I will have this running.
@coolkanishk32 Thank you! By the way, I hope I didn't left the impression that I was involved in the project. I'm just a fan, and all I did was to try it out.
@redstarfish I'm thinking it may be difficult to scan thick books because of the way they open (not completely flat). Maybe you need a special type of scanner for that. Also, lots of patience and time.
