The south of France has suffered 26" of rain in just 48hrs. This has NEVER happened before in recorded history. Absolutely catastrophic. Another tipping point is passed...the Earth's water cycle is completely out of balance. It's still raining there. #ClimateChange

Too good not to share. From Private Eye, British satirical magazine (which also has some serious investigative journalism). In the shops now.

Kemi Badenoch has claimed young Conservatives are marked down at university because of their personal politics.
Speaking at the end of the annual Tory conference, the leadership candidate told party delegates that the younger generation are “afraid to share their politics” out of fear their peers will attack them or lecturers will mark them down. A serious accusation and she failed to provide any evidence whatsoever. Another attack on education by those who want the plebs to remain ignorant. -

"The attacks on Starmer are intensifying. There is some serious money being spent mounting this coordinated attack on our democratically elected government. Those who own the largely right wing media outlets are soiling themselves with fear at what he might do." Posted by Oldish Bird. Yes indeed...Leveson 2 perhaps? Or appointing an HMRC team to pursue them for unpaid taxes.

“I know of no other example where the prime minister has overruled intelligence advice.”
@C4Dispatches
uncovers how Boris Johnson chose to ignore security advice and make the son of an ex-Russian spy with alleged links to the Kremlin a member of the House of Lords.Hostile foreign powers are already embedded in UK law-making positions...thanks to Johnson. One has to wonder what kompromat they have on him....

@HistoPol I took early retirement in 2019 after 10yrs working in care homes of various types. I'd saved up all my life in order to leave work early, to save my sanity and health.

During the last 10yrs I worked in the NHS as a dual qualified Nurse I chose not to take holidays in July and August because all my colleagues had children and wanted their hols in those months. At Christmas and New Year we all collaborated on which shifts we'd do. It didn't stop some saying their Christmas with children was more important than mine as I didn't have children. Yes but I had a 50 mile round trip to my parents, they didn't. I worked 4 nights a week for the last 4yrs in the NHS cont

Sept 2008 I returned from hols to find the rota had changed, they'd given me split shifts "because colleagues wanted time with family". I contacted my union rep. It was discrimination. I knew my time was coming to an end there. Only my black colleagues on nights utterly understood the discrimination I felt and I was very touched by their support. My shifts went back to normal. I handed my notice in 2mths later and felt a huge relief. And grief. And betrayal. Patients wrote me thankyou letters.

I was told I had to work 2mths notice, not one though was paid monthly. I discovered 3 other colleagues on days who'd started the same time as me had also decided to leave at the same time. Management BEGGED us to stay, to do covering/extra shifts. I did loads just before leaving, just for the money. I had a tiny leaving do with my night team and left post-its all over the ward for the rest. I skipped all the way to the carpark and left, with tears of relief.
