During the last 10yrs I worked in the NHS as a dual qualified Nurse I chose not to take holidays in July and August because all my colleagues had children and wanted their hols in those months. At Christmas and New Year we all collaborated on which shifts we'd do. It didn't stop some saying their Christmas with children was more important than mine as I didn't have children. Yes but I had a 50 mile round trip to my parents, they didn't. I worked 4 nights a week for the last 4yrs in the NHS cont

Aloniaxx (judeet99@mastodon.world)'s status on Wednesday, 07-Aug-2024 18:47:44 JST Aloniaxx I was told I had to work 2mths notice, not one though was paid monthly. I discovered 3 other colleagues on days who'd started the same time as me had also decided to leave at the same time. Management BEGGED us to stay, to do covering/extra shifts. I did loads just before leaving, just for the money. I had a tiny leaving do with my night team and left post-its all over the ward for the rest. I skipped all the way to the carpark and left, with tears of relief.

Aloniaxx (judeet99@mastodon.world)'s status on Wednesday, 07-Aug-2024 18:47:46 JST Aloniaxx Sept 2008 I returned from hols to find the rota had changed, they'd given me split shifts "because colleagues wanted time with family". I contacted my union rep. It was discrimination. I knew my time was coming to an end there. Only my black colleagues on nights utterly understood the discrimination I felt and I was very touched by their support. My shifts went back to normal. I handed my notice in 2mths later and felt a huge relief. And grief. And betrayal. Patients wrote me thankyou letters.
