less "led" and more "forcibly prevented from burning down society around them"
having the government run the hospitals, trains, power, telecom backbone and public housing doesn't imply lack of core personal freedoms, it just means that you aren't allowed to make profit in certain ways, which honestly is completely irrelevant unless you're wealthy

my sociologist mom always tried to remind me that if you don't put formal leaders in place, invisible leaders will arise

it is the foundation for basic big-government social democracy, (current) reactionaries want to dismantle all government institutions for profit and deregulation purposes

actually the solution is authoritarianism
you create a rigid top-down environment with clear goals where parasite-people can't do their thing, then you enforce that order by keeping them afraid of consequences if they try to subvert from the outside
keep the goals aligned with the common good and you'll attract competent stable personalities that actually want to do the work and who are aligned with this mode of organization, creating self-perpetuation
none of this is possible if you have a culture where building this sort of organization is actively viewed as bad in itself though, of course (but people will create nonaligned authoritarian organizations in their absence of course, leading to a society ruled by corporations, religious sects and puppeted special interest groups

@kaia
not gonna gain one much being a patsy, regional politicians will just be expected to carry the dog head for unpopular policies from the core party for little pay, everyone else will consider them a social pariah and they'll be eliminated from the party as soon as they become inconvenient in some way
this presuming the entire thing won't devolve into full-scale war-economy mafia thuggism where you can just become voivode over a city and outright steal shit and have people killed if you scheme hard enough, but i don't think that will happen this time around
if you wanna get away with stealing and corruption in the west, you join the "nice guys"

no sadly it's just historical fact, although laudanum in itself was of course just shit but it was what was available
nowaydays they do use a laudanum-like thing for terminal patients but they don't call it that
but if you could just buy any medication the stupid masses would hurt themselves constantly

>"he is so shy" >"no grandma, he doesn't understand a word you're saying"
even gen x mother-in-law only knows extremely broken english, where a swedish person her age would be fluent (if with a heavy accent from lack of habit perhaps

they want to privatize it to kill it just to remove the competition in e.g. package delivery and such, has nothing to do with any values or ideology or anything of the sort

real problem is materials science, making probes that don't break or cause scar tissue
iirc there's not even a theoretical way to do that yet, hence why neuralink is a dead end venture

@icedquinn as a european it's incredibly distressing to see that the US might further deregulate its finance industry, given what happened when they threw glass-steagall out the window
