I asked a black friend if either, none, or one of Junteenth and Kwanzaa were fake holidays. His answer was that they had community parades for Junteenth when he grew up (in Houston, IIRC) but nobody heard about Kwanzaa. So Junteenth is definitely real, in fact a volk tradition.
@feld@phnt yeah well... I've been a big free trade, libertarian weenie too, before Trump ushered an amazing prosperity and American products that are competitive with the world. Those few short years really made me question if everything is as Ayn Rand and Dan Mitchell taught us.
Oh and almost immediately after Trump, another thing happened: sanctions on Russia. Naturally, at first everyone was very concerned, because foreign products disappeared. And then... a miracle happened. Domestic products appeared, which were BOTH better AND cheaper than previously available imports. How can this be?!
This was especially striking in areas where government was not particularly concerned, because of low military significance. My favourite example is cat food. Russian cats were fed primarily Canadian cat food. And then suddenly... You'd think they'd import from China instead, but Chinese cat food is even worse than Canadian one was. And, the new Russian cat food is price competitive (although not cheaper than Chinese).
I strongly suspect now that the global free trade was somehow misallocating investment by syphoning large amount of money to politically connected entities. I know, it's an illuminati and Soros level conspiracy. But please come up with a better explanation why tariffs and sanctions produce better and cheaper domestic products (although under Trump, American toilet seats like I bought were not, strictly speaking cheaper than Chinese ones. But they were good enough.)
@sun@tk I'm going to install Windows 11 and then I'll argue with you on the Internet. I am a GNOME user who just runs everything default. Also, I adore gnome-terminal. Surely your displeasure is mostly hyperbole.
@sun@Fullmetal2255 Dude please. You know how pure Albedo is. It's actually a joke that although her race is a succubus, she has no experience with men, thanks to her dedication to Ainz.
@sun It used to be pretty painless. Just visit the local office of AAA.
Did I tell you that I tried to rent a kei car a couple of times? But every time they forced a substitution to a bigger car with a white plate. They always gave some kind of b.s. excuse, like the assigned car had an accident, and this car is bigger, so it's better, right? I am 100% certain there's a secret policy that denies kei cars to gaijin. Tried both at Toyota rental and Hertz - same result.
@sun I once watched "Happiness" documentary, which tried to argue that happiness is not in things. Which is kind of obvious. But their corner case was a rickshaw guy in India. Yeah, I think not.
@shibao@sun I even guess what it was[1], because TwittX algorithm is extremely fractal. Once it latches onto a tweet, it starts promoting, and the tweet snowballs.
@sun@shibao Oh they do. Every town has a Fidelity, every the goddamn Albuquerque. And they assign you a handler, who calls you once a year and asks if you want anything. I'm a retail investor, come on guys.
You know what's funny. I knew a guy .. or should I say a boy? He started acting when he was 7. But unlike most others, he kept to the acting career. He's in his late teens now... Or maybe older? Time flies.
Anyway. I think he wasn't ready for a film back when he was 15. It would be Phantom Menace kind of thing.
@sun In addition... When I was in middle school, there was a movie "Dingo The Wild Dog"[1]. It was a high school rom-com, and it was shown often. I never watched it in full, but my classmates who did, were quite disappointed that the female lead was played by an actress in her early 20s, pretending to be a JK.
@triodug My SteelSeries is surprisingly okay. I chose the quiet option. HOWEVER! It's not a 100% pitch! It's advertised as a full size keyboard but actually it's 96% size. That causes me to miss keys at the left and right edges, such as 'a' and '\'.
