I understand how you feel about that but at the moment I have an RTX 3070 from 2020 I don't have any real plans to upgrade yet and I don't really want to shell out to buy a new card for linux if I can get away with it.
The mod is nice and I'm kinda tempted to sell it. To be honest it was actually a breeze compared to the AGS-101 mod. Soldering was optional but i wanted to solder the 3 wires to get access to all the menu options using a button combo.
Only thing I don't like about this GBA is the speaker is relatively quiet but I suspect that could be due to a aging capacitor that may need replacement. honestly... I really don't feel assed to re-cap this gameboy at the moment. I did have to re-cap some gameboy colors a few years back due to the sound no longer working on them and it's common for the C38 cap that powers the speaker to go bad on those.
@sun@coolboymew Apparently handheld legend sells a pair for $2 a piece + shipping. You could probably get it cheaper if you knew the OEM part # off digikey or mouser.
The laminated IPS screen and shell came in today :catjam:
I'm debating on doing a full solderless mod for this one or soldering wires to the button points to make it easier to adjust screen settings. I also wish I could find tactile / clicky trigger button switches to replace the squishy quiet ones on the stock gba. The buttons work but it's a preference thing . I like having an audible click when pressing buttons.
@hj@lain@coolboymew@mangeurdenuage I used to watch his vids a couple years back but lost interest it's mostly him circlejerking and making a plug for himself. Look at me I'm le famous e-celeb because I worked for Wayforward and handled a port of Shantae and has been riding those coattails like it makes him an authority on anything since.
I got the gameboy working again by bridging but the system has a weird power issue now where when it powers off the system will not power back on unless you wait 10 or more seconds for the residual power to drain. The switch is a lot less finnicky now but I had to order some 0402 150 ohm resistors to replaceit. I had my hand slip and I one of my fingers briefly touched the tip of the iron and that hurt pretty good. Got a small blister ( 2nd degree burn ) from it. luckily it's really small and I'm more mad than anything I lost the resistors than I am that I burned my hand.
I know the culprit is R13 since that resistor is near the power switch and it's documented for fast power drain. Once it's replaced I can flick on and off the switch to my hearts content and have it power on and off.
@idiot@coolboymew It just sucks cheating in games now has become big business because of all the wannabe Twitch streamers and e-Sports nonsense. I mean cheating in online games has been around forever and some cultures 'primarily Chinese' pushes it heavily. I still deal with that bullshit in counter strike all the time. Ban wave happened last week so the cheaters not banned aren't hard core rage cheating but still using trigger bots and wallhacks instead. I literally witnessed someone turn on rage cheats against bots in an unranked game ffs and I recorded it.
