@mangeurdenuage@kaia I was about to say is that a drive caddy for a ThinkPad and then I read the initial post. My dad's old ThinkPad T480 has a caddy that looked identical to that.
That could work as a very basic server but i feel a hyper threaded dual is really limited for anything demanding in 2025. I got an i5-6200u in a work laptop and crowdstrike makes the thing borderline unusable.
@Hoss Honestly I want to see the whole thing collapse so I can watch these "crypto bros" throw themselves out of windows like the 1920's stock investors did.
Even if I lost $10k USD in value of CS skins it'd be totally worth it I wouldn't even give a fuck to be honest.
To be fair a Ph.d lost it's value when you could get one for writing a thesis on gender identity pronouns. The title has lost all credibility when you can get it for writing a thesis on inane garbage.I feel bad for the PH.d's who got it writing something legit and useful only to have their prestige devalued by glorified participation trophies.
@coolboymew I think it was a pricing error at some grocery store in Gatineau QC they posted a contre-filet ( NY Strip Steak ) for $235 CAD
I was trying to reference that old meme with lord humungus on 4chan when people would use him for threads of just post the instore grocery prices in canada and there will be an end to the horror.
@verita84 GIMP made sense though it was the GNU image manipulation program. Crafft is a retarded name and doesn't even fit the resurive program naming conventions of linux of the yesteryear.
@sun Yeah and for an OS that's been out for 4+ years by a billion dollar corporate the amount of bugs and issues it has is completely unacceptable. MS quality took a complete nosedive just so they could only focus on shitty AI projects like copilot and their Azure services. W10 was the last stable OS they made.
@coolboymew@goatmeal@mangeurdenuage@sun I did a Hackintosh with 10.5 Leopard on my old P35 chipset and Core 2 Duo E8400 cpu with Nvidia 8800GT I built after I graduated high school. It was pretty involved back then because you had to use a gparted live cd to format your drive to HFS+ and then put a chainloader file onto the root of the drive. I got it to boot but sadly not everything worked right and I believe a lot of it was due to my 8800GT GPU not being properly supported.
The TonyMac X86 project did streamline a lot of things for modern hardware and it had a large repo of kexts ( kernel extensions ). Sadly you can't do much wiht modern macs because they migrated over to the M* familiy chips and those are arm instead of X86_64 cpus.
It's a cool novelty but for practicality I don't see any real reason to do a hackintosh unless you need something that you can't run in a OSX VM image.
