    @yomiel System76 moved their system design in-house so you'd be paying for their R&D, etc. costs as well. I'm struggling to find work so can't justify buying one, even though it fits some of my requirements.

    I'm holding out for a low-power ARM server that's performant, accessible and affordable.

    @lxo I didn't see this in my notifications. Apologies for that, I'm aware you're moving to a new account.

    Most people who use tech for work purposes expect a good UX. It should not be mutually exclusive from inner workings that do not disrespect the user or harms their freedom, but I don't live in a world of ideals.

    From my experience, there's a window of computer users who would be open to learning about how their tech works. I am within said window and am aware, and excitable, when tech that meets said ideal comes about. I don't expect people to care about the same things I do and that's fine by me. If they want to, they will when it suits them (even if that means being burned by software that screws them over).

    Nobody here advocates dumbing down, but keeping things overcomplicated or overengineered is one way of making it not worthwhile. Nobody wants to use tools that get in their way.

    So, how many people are still feeling euphoric over something they would happen anyway? DeepSeek has its own two-face (i.e. censors) but I'm glad it exists to stick the boot in to the seeming monopoly the US has on the market.

    Unrelated, my Fifine M9 is still in China due to CNY. I am slowly turning my attention back to what I started before I was whisked away on an unplanned visit.

    Firefox continues to use more RAM on startup than the last time I checked. Just having SPW open sees it hit 700MiB in total, no extensions.

    @kaia I was made redundant from COVID but HR were obviously looking at me based on how many times I was being picked on. I was able to stay on for just a few more months before the inevitable scale back to a skeleton crew when the lockdowns hit.

    I had thought about 'revenge quitting' after the many years I had done more than was expected of me. The buyout by a company owned by private equity vampires was what catalysed my thought process.
