We essentially imposed economic sanctions against ourselves. By adding #immigration to the equation, millions fell for #Brexit, but even after the unmitigated disaster it's become, millions STILL voted for #Farage at #GE2024!

There's time yet. I honestly feel #Labour's first steps will be a warming of #EU relations, then sorting out the economic mess the #Tories left behind, then to concentrate on re-election, AND THEN resolving #Brexit.

Over the next 5 years, Labour must first decouple #Immigration from freedom of movement. Without immigration being pushed front & centre of the #UK's relationship with #Europe by #Farage, our EU membership would've remained a lunatic fringe issue.

The great con of #Brexit was #Farage convincing a nation that ending freedom of movement would stop them having to live next door to anyone from Eastern #Europe, as well as Black & Brown people. None of this happened.

If anything, the #UK lost millions from northern & central Europe, to be replaced by migrants from #Africa & #Asia. Businesses who relied of cheap seasonal minimum wages EU workers collapsed overnight, hence the floodgates opening to the southern hemisphere.

The far right fascists will blindside & distract the masses by telling them their problems are all the fault of immigrants, whilst they bleed their countries dry.

HOWEVER, as we've seen previously, when the #FarRight have finished demonising immigrants, they'll need another object of hatred to blame to keep their fascist con going.

Next it will be #LGBTQ, then non Christians, then the elderly, then the infirmed. Essentially anyone who isn't white & straight.

This compelling narrative can only come from we the people. #Putin has been playing the long game, by first grooming #Trump, & then funding #FarRight #Fascists in the West, as a way to destabilise it from within.

I think the sobering thought of being invaded by Russia & having a NATO without #America, is finally making people wake up. For far too long, #Europe has been too comfortable without realising the period between WW2 & the invasion of Ukraine was its longest period of peace in 2000 years, if you discount the war in the #Balkans.

I think moving away from its reliance on #Russian oil & gas, & #America's military might for security, could be the making of Europe.

YES I support #ScottishIndependence, BUT it's NOT a massive issue to the average person in #England. Why would it be? It doesn't mean huge swathes of us aren't sympathetic to your cause

Just put a search for #English devolution & you'll find a plethora of information on it. Having elected Mayor's with limited devolved powers was the start, but the #English regions want more.

We're all tired of being dictated to by Westminster. Your concern is with #Scotland, hence why I feel you may have missed the strength of feeling about devolution throughout the Midlands & the North in particular.

That's my whole point. It didn't matter if he represented a #Scottish or #English constituency. He was Scottish & his place of birth had little bearing on people voting #Labour.

It's the character & effectiveness of the person that matters most, albeit I concede it helps if the candidate also has a local connection too.
