@AntennaPod@podverse@liaizon@trashheap@semitones@benjaminbellamy There is a project to use ActivityStreams and publish this user generated data using ActivityPub across all apps. IMHO OPML is not the way forward. In Podcasting 2.0 Podrolls, Playlists and Publisher Feeds are using the RemoteItem structure as a means to list podcasts and episodes in an interchangeable open format which replaces OPML for import/export. But W3C ActivityStreams will be the best way to all app interoperability.
@mike@evan@chris@adam@dave@james So I successfully connected my Flipboard account to Mastodon. Soon I will have Threads & Ghost federated. I already have PeerTube, Castopod and Mastodon (plus Mastoclones - Ivory, Mammoth, Elk and Phanopy). Next I hope to add TrueFans to the Fedi-party.
This note may receive multiple messages/activity verbs from other Podcasting apps. e.g a user on Fountain leaves a boost. Fountain then post the boost to the same socialInteract link. TrueFans listens to this AP Note and pulls in the new boost message to the users inbox.
@wjmaggos@BeAware@tchambers@evan@steven@davidpierce@dave@chrismessina Below is my Activitystream (outbox) in TrueFans. It shows a number of verbs for (the actor) Sam Sethi. 'Play', 'Suggest', 'Follow', 'Boostagram'. There are 20+ activity verbs in TrueFans. The next step is for us to publish these activities to my FediClient via the ActivityPub protocol. (TrueFans users can choose what verbs are public/private and what is published). Then any follower will see this as a signal.
ActivityPub is a messaging backbone with an inbox/outbox metaphor.
The AP bridge is a great demo of a FediClient/Mastodon (inbox) linking to an Activity verb called 'Follow' published from the Podcast Index (outbox) via the ActivityPub protocol.
However that is not what TrueFans is trying to achieve. TrueFans will become a full FediClient with an in/out box for ActivityStream messages.
According to FediDB, the ActivityPub side of the Fediverse is now used by nearly 10 million people, across more than 27,000 servers. FediDB also tracks 48 different platforms leveraging ActivityPub in some way. With Threads actively doing work their own implementation, these stats are likely to skyrocket, in more ways than one.
@HitokiriEric@tchambers One proposal for interoperability uses ActivityStreams and ActivityPub.
TrueFans.FM (my app) collects user's activity into an ActivityStream. The next step is to publish this activity data to the user's ActivtyPub client with their permission.
We currently have 30 verbs in TrueFans. Users can choose to hide all activity or publish whatever verbs they choose.
How this leads to app interoperability is still under discussion.
@HitokiriEric@tchambers Hi Eric this 'holy grail' is a collective goal for podcasting 2.0 developers to provide interoperability between our apps. I accept this is not a user goal.
I was going to subscribe to Evan Prodromou's new premium account but realised this is not Value 4 Value. This is the old web model of pay me every month even if I offer no value. Me paying Evan would be a leap of faith to believe he will deliver me $5 or more value. Now Evan may well do that but in a Value 4 Value model I would pay Evan what I wanted to based on me valuing his content and then only paying for what I consume. This is one reason why ActivityPub needs to support SATs.
Good article to read in The Verge on the future of social media and the use of ActivityPub to make it happen.
Love This Quote: "a rare chance to unbundle the internet, to pull apart an existing system and rebuild it, piece by piece, in vastly better ways. If we do this correctly — if the next phase of how we congregate and communicate online is built for humans and not advertisers . "
