A dear friend of mine has been evicted and is now homeless. They are hanging on, for now, but their only real plan is to escape to a friend in Delaware who is ready to house them. Job search has failed as they're in backwater Louisiana. No other friends nearby
They're suicidal and are losing hope. Please help them so they may have a decent life again, they've been suffering from a year in various unstable households. Every bit helps
Can someone recommend me some hard or semi-hard transhumanist #scifi (preferably prose or webcomic form) that does *not* have a faux-rationalist eugenicsy vibe to it and has a more laid-back and creative attitude regarding posthuman enhancements and so on, while also *not* having a technophobic, conservative attitude that treats the human body and mind as something sacred and untouchable like a lot of sci-fi that touches on these topics?
Amaroq needs help. Shi had left hir abusive home and somewhat secured food but shi is still unemployed. Due to circumstances, shi needs to extinguish credit on some cash cards that's draining hir money.
Every dollar counts!!! Previous post did not get many donations. Please give! STILL NEED DONATIONS URGENT
Ammy is one of the sweetest people I know but is struggling with suicidal thoughts.

@vantablack@mynameistillian jfc the greed of those people. It's a drop in the bucket compared to the other donations. I don't even dislike Harris! I support her! But no way I would donate to her if I had the money, when my money would make a bigger impact if given directly to a struggling person.
Cheap way to fix a problem. No side effects compared to other measures. Hyped up by both its creators and true believers. The proposed mechanism for it makes sense on a surface level. Yet the only "evidence" that it does literally anything, comes from its inventors!
@nonlinear@futurebird@dahukanna@PavelASamsonov@nyrath In materials science, my field, we use AI models for figuring out properties of various new materials, *but* they're specialized ones. And generally we validate them after. But it does free up a lot of grunt work of working out *potential* promising materials manually, when a computer can give us a few dozen decent ones and then we test through them.
This kinda thing is where science benefits the most from AI, that and proteins.
@nonlinear@futurebird@dahukanna@PavelASamsonov@nyrath I hope that after this snake-oil bullcrap with them trying to fully replace humans blows over (and it will blow over sooner or later, like all tech bubbles it's not sustainable), I hope this kinda application stays. At least we got something with a lasting impact out of it unlike the previous tech bubble (NFTs)...
Literally TIL this existed, I used Fedi for what, almost a year now and I just found this out. -_-
And I wondered why I couldn't get any publicity for my books. (It's off by default which is probably a good move but if you're a creative you should turn it on.)
