@cstross The struggle to not start a Laundryverse casting call, Simon Bob Pegg, is almost overwhelming.

Thorne Lawler (thorne@rants.au)'s status on Saturday, 21-Dec-2024 19:39:07 JST Thorne Lawler @cstross the thing is- ‘back to the office’ initiatives are failing in a lot of cases. Labour-shortage means that companies who are hard-line lose employees to companies who aren’t; and once they’re gone, it’s prohibitive to replace them, especially if you’re hard-line.
I have to wonder- when this one goes Lehman Brothers, who will the victims be? Who (if anyone) will support a bailout? -

Trebitsch-Lincoln and George Santos are clearly the same person: a bored immortal who gets his kicks by telling ridiculous lies at the highest level he can be bothered obtaining.
Immortality comes with built-in identity concealment: every century or so you get your face blown off and it regrows *just* differently enough. -

Thorne Lawler (thorne@rants.au)'s status on Thursday, 21-Nov-2024 20:02:16 JST Thorne Lawler @cstross oh wow. Just got a stunning visual of New Management Era Bob for the first time in [so many] books:
Gen-x nerdy in that kind of Goth-aware-but-not-goth manner that I fear most of us gravitate to. A bit bedraggled, as though resisting the New Management is making life hard; except he *always* looked this way.
His iPod in a world of smartphones seems odd *before* you notice the green glow leaking out of every seam.
Shoulders hunched, gaze piercing but studiedly indifferent, he has Noticed you noticing him. -

Do you harbour any aspirations towards screen-writing or directing? My mind leaps to the thought of all those studios who were pouring money into Gaiman projects, then stopped.
