Is it time yet for a revival of "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" only the pod people are androids running LLMs (AIs) trained on the output of the human beings they're replacing?

Or is that too pointed, so corporations trying to roll out AI will ignore/reject/suppress it?

@slowtiger Yes, it's TOTALLY time for a second Stepford Wives remake, now with 100% more added AI. (Brr.)

@cstross They'll trumpet putting an android like that on the market at affordable prices days after the movie comes out.

@FirefighterGeek LLMs are not AI, they're just spicy autocomplete.

@cstross Partly that's why I hate the term "AI" applied to what we have now.

There's no cognition happening. It's just an algo too big and self modifying for us to follow. There's neither good will nor bad will involved. There's no ego or desire. There's "most likely solution" and that's all. Getting you out of the way is efficient.

"The AI doesn't love you. The AI doesn't hate you. The AI knows that you are made of complex organic molecules and it has more efficient uses for them."

@cstross Nah, I think they'll just take it as an instruction manual.

@cstross This sounds like a far better idea than most of the current streaming crop. Do you harbour any aspirations towards screen-writing or directing? My mind leaps to the thought of all those studios who were pouring money into Gaiman projects, then stopped.

@thorne I am deeply uninterested in taking up screenwriting! (I'm old, gaining traction in a new field takes at least a decade, I still have a bunch of novels to write, and I dislike the creative compromises that come with working in a big-budget medium.)
