What in your opinion changed recently with all the fragmentation of licensing, and relabeling of same licenses into more specific forks?

GPL BSD MIT ISC now we have hundreds of forks of variably free licenses, python its own, ....

This is very dense and informative. Linux now is full of corporate firmware blobs for which there has been absolute refusal to share code, let alone provide it as free.

Banning devs based on national origin of their employers competing in interests with those paying linux-developer salaries should be expected then?

How do you feel about rust (quick sand source) playing an increasing role in the kernel? Internalizing the use of Facebook compr.algor. in the kernel?

Most of the admins' replies on the limit was "it is too hard to configure for non-default, and it reverts back to default after each upgrade", which to me if it was true, sounds like a packaging issue or inablility to oonfigure the build (with rust I wouldn't be surprised). Maybe they are running mastodon on windows, who knows, so to engage in /etc/ configuration is pointless.

I am not a server owner because I can't afford it. I am simply a user.

Serious content usually is found on text format for people to read, fluff is kept at a/v format.
Talks were written and read, so they were in text form. easier to translate and transcribe than a/v crap!

I am under the impression that the mastodon sw comes with a .conf file where limit is preset to 500 but can be altered.

It has nothing to do with overloading the server as the smallest image is equal to 1000s of lines of text, not characters.

Some say it is don so messages display easy on a arm/android type of device, small vertical screen, but I assume it is little inconvenience to just rub the screen down some more to read.

Somehow you make it sound like a post you make belongs to you (as in property) and you should be able to control who can respond to it.

Let's act as adults and realize that once you make a public statement you no longer "own" this statement, it is there in public domain, people can agree/disagree, adopt, or reject it, or even modify it and restate the original. It is what we want, isn't it?
