Also, you'll have to pry the footprint logo from my cold dead hands, and I'm very much not joking.

@cassidy @jorge @downey that argument would fly if it didn't come from the same people that floated the idea of dropping the logo two years ago, and got lambasted for it. This feels a lot like a way to sneak it past the rest of the community, with zero input.

The current logo is the one that lasted the longest and it's the most recognised one; and all the objections ("it's offensive to some cultures") originate from the same people that don't want to rename GIMP.

I have not blogged or talked about the follow-up work to my "GType Next" blog post that I've been doing in my spare time, mainly because it is happening *in my spare time*, and I don't want to give false impressions to people; the other reason is that the time consuming bit is not writing a bunch of code, but it's planning ahead, because the goal is to avoid breaking stuff at all costs…

@forteller you can always file an issue against gnome-settings-daemon or gnome-control-center, and the maintainers will direct you to the right place if it's not appropriate.

The component that pops up the notification is gnome-settings-daemon, but the thresholds are set in upower.

Incidentally, this reminds me how *awfully inadequate* are the GitLab moderation and anti-spam measures; to this day, you still can't remove spam comments from snippets; you can't limit emoji reactions to *at least* remove the troll ones; and you can't block known bad actors, only report their accounts.

Folks: it's 2024, you *need* to have moderation tools for anything that is hosted on a public-facing service.

@brainblasted as I said: raging and complaining is fine. The line that should not be crossed is making shit up to appease your need for finding bad guys. Somebody’s opinion is also not at the same level of other people’s actions, and it should not be used to cast aspersions on a whole project.

@forteller this is really application territory, because only an application knows about its contents; so it's either a feature of the toolkit, or implemented straight into the app. It could be implemented, say, by the GTK text widgets, but then everybody else has to do the same, and everyone has to decide to use the same key shortcut. Introducing new shortcuts onto unsuspecting apps may end up colliding with existing shortcuts, as well.
