... The #Bluesky school. Do almost everything they are doing except inviting #enshittification. They have the #troll, #spam, #spy and #misinformation problems under control. People are happily connecting and avoiding whatever they want to avoid. They are enjoying themselves.

If we want to be #relevant, actually WANT to be relevant, we are going to have to go to school....

If the #fediverse is ever to go even partly mainstream, say 10 million active users, we will have to have a clear eyed look at what ordinary #socialmedia consumers want as an interface. Then either alter one of the #platforms, mostly likely #Mastodon, to meet those expectations, or build a new #ActivityPub platform from scratch that will. Otherwise admit to ourselves we just wanna be #niche.

Is there a dictionary of misinformation terms somewhere and if not can we make them? We need to name things so we can dismantle them. For example, Toxic masculinity, now named, is something identifiable.

I’ve wanted to do this for a while. Things like:

Exaggeration
“Will destroy incentives…” when it will just slightly reduce them. (Elon Musk)

Over-Blown
“She’s a communist!” when she is just introducing social programs.

Work Demanding
“Climate crisis isn’t real. Prove to me it is”.

False Civility (Demanding calm words after violent action).
“If you want to debate this stop swearing and come with the facts.” after a car is driven into protesters or a house is demolished for a freeway.

Bad Neutral (Ignores actions as they are incumbent)
“If we can’t agree, we shouldn’t change anything.” As power stations still burn gas and oil.

Null as Zero
“There is zero evidence for this.” Covid testing was stopped.

False equivalence.
“On the left we have a 20 year PHD Professor on the subject and on the right is Beatle Juice who is being very loud and is popular as he’s racist.”

Failed Moderation
He had most of the argument because every time she spoke he talked over her and the host did nothing but suddenly wrap up at the end.

These are the ones just from the top of my head. I need labels. I need a dictionary.

It is said that people always do the right thing… after trying everything else first. I wish everyone well on Bluesky, although to me it feels like they secured their AOL Keyword and not their domain.

I see this ending with Bluesky switching to Mastodon standards and just becoming another federated server.

One can dream, but that feels like the tail wagging the dog. I like #Bluesky because I can reach the world and sentimental feelings for Twitter circa 2009.

Also, what is this hiding doing to my exploration? When looking at a thread or conversation hosted on off of spore, most of what I do here, am I missing replies there because they come from "hidden" servers or "hidden" accts? If I still get to know about them, and then get to click through, I am fine with that, but opting out of the whole process would be better.

I keep being told I am trying to access a #hidden account. Then I get to click through, so it's really just an inconvenience, not a problem, and I figure you know what you are doing to keep your people happy. However, as an individual, I am much more open to rough accounts than the norm here. Can I opt out of this hiding?

I am REALLY enjoying my experience at #BlueSky so I read your post with great interest. It is possible we are merely in the "provide exactly what everyone wants" ingratiation phase of #enshittification, but it is useful right now. I'll take a nice ~1year and then leave if I have to. And remember, all info given to #walledgardens is forever and now owned by them.

Mmm, ok,that i won't argue about. Different we all are as well. But not better than others. And somehow, despite all differences, still pretty much the same in our rights. That's where i was going, not that we are all identical.
