   If the #fediverse is ever to go even partly mainstream, say 10 million active users, we will have to have a clear eyed look at what ordinary #socialmedia consumers want as an interface. Then either alter one of the #platforms, mostly likely #Mastodon, to meet those expectations, or build a new #ActivityPub platform from scratch that will. Otherwise admit to ourselves we just wanna be #niche.

     #politicians, #celebrities, and #business people make the jump, it's all over. #Bluesky will be the main place for #microblogging until #enshittification sets in. And it's possible that will never happen.

     If we want to be #relevant, actually WANT to be relevant, we are going to have to go to school....

     ... The #Bluesky school. Do almost everything they are doing except inviting #enshittification. They have the #troll, #spam, #spy and #misinformation problems under control. People are happily connecting and avoiding whatever they want to avoid. They are enjoying themselves.

     I love the #fediverse, I always will. Not gonna leave. But it's microscopic.

     I do not have contempt for people who want Twitter w/o Musk. Basically that would amount to ... Contempt for people.

     In other words, a centralised, monolithic, walled-up silo for total dumb-dumbs with Twitter's UI and Twitter's UX. An even closer Twitter clone than Bluesky.
     
     And if it can't be centralised and monolithic and walled-up because it's a) decentralised itself and b) in the Fediverse, it must still present itself to the general public and everyone on 𝕏 as centralised, monolithic and walled-up. That's all they can handle. It even has to lie to the users on its own lighthouse instance to keep them on board.
