• you seem to skip over posts from chucker unless he talks about xyz. [ Show fewer posts from chucker ]
• you rarely read something chucker has boosted. [ Hide boosts from chucker ]

It’s just some yellow bar at the top of the timeline, and you can shut it off.

@thollief @inthehands @misc @shauna It doesn’t have to be a binary of A “the timeline is exactly the people and hashtags you follow, nothing more, nothing less” or B “the timeline is what a corporation whose interests don’t align with yours has decided”, is my point.

I do prefer A, but it’s not for everyone and does come with the occasional “why am I even reading this” moment.

@reneestephen @sanguish so do archives not auto-delete? I figured their intent was to be downloaded within a reasonable span of time.

If they do auto-delete, that suggests this not only affects only people who requested an archive, but also only those who have done so recently.

I’m probably overthinking this… but if you need to feed it those manuals anyway, wouldn’t it be simpler to stuff a bunch of PDFs in a document store with full-text search (and run OCR where needed)? Takes fewer computing resources and yields higher quality

• Masto offers auto-deletion of old posts. If you’re worried about people piling on and dragging you for something you said 17 years ago, this may help.
• Masto offers auto-expiring filters. Some people talk about Sporting Event or Politics Event a lot for a day? Mute the people and/or keywords for a while!
• Be liberal in muting and blocking.
• Timeline too big but don’t want to unfollow? Make a list, add the most important people, and make that your new timeline!
