Spontaneous aneurisms would occur pre COVID, but are far more common in our post COVID infection world. We all need to be prepared to act as fast as Deputy Whitmore's husband did

Carol Connolly (carolconnolly@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 19-Jun-2024 19:51:26 JST Carol Connolly O'Gorman (supported CETA and coalition with FF/FG) as likely leader and, once the dust settles, Hackett (also supported CETA and coalition) as likely deputy leader.
So that's The Greens firmly positioning themselves as a business friendly centrist party for the next decade 🫤

Carol Connolly (carolconnolly@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 07-Jun-2024 09:10:31 JST Carol Connolly What's your plan for getting to the polling station tomorrow for the Irish and European elections?
I am not hearing much buzz about voting, and creating voter apathy is one of the far right's paths to power.
Use your vote, and keep the far right out!

Carol Connolly (carolconnolly@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 18-Mar-2024 06:26:41 JST Carol Connolly @Antiqueight I really wish I could give you positive news about living with a messed up immune system and post exertional malaise but uh.... It's awful. So yes, avoiding getting those two symptoms that are also common in long COVID would definitely make your life happier!
But don't beat yourself up when circumstances outside your control mean you have to roll those dice. It happens! I will have to do it on Tuesday myself to access medical care. Be kind to yourself. -

Carol Connolly (carolconnolly@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 18-Mar-2024 06:19:13 JST Carol Connolly @Antiqueight we are learning so much about this virus so rapidly it is absolutely fascinating. And scary. But the science is so so cool and teaching us so much about how the immune system works.
But the recent studies that have proved that each infection makes you more likely to get long COVID, that the odds of you being luck decrease with each infection, that it is not an equal roll of the dice each time.... Shit.
So every time you /don't/ catch it matters. So we just try our best. -

Carol Connolly (carolconnolly@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 18-Mar-2024 06:11:20 JST Carol Connolly @Antiqueight ... Out what is practical and what is workable and adding in new situations and new science means your masking choices will change. Like, I used to wear cloth, now I only wear Auras. I used to not mask outdoors, now I often do. I often unmask in healthcare settings because those people have power over me.
So I say... Trust your gut about what is right for you. And be OK with changing when you learn new things. And give yourself grace when the world pushes you into something 2/2 -

Carol Connolly (carolconnolly@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 18-Mar-2024 06:11:20 JST Carol Connolly @Antiqueight if a sterilising vaccine for COVID came out tomorrow I would still need to mask due to all the other bugs I catch (I am working on getting my immune system back up and running but it is a long process).
But... There isn't a sterilising vaccine yet. And personally, I think by next summer the sheer number of people with long COVID would make you relieved if you keep masking.
But it is so, so hard to go against the world. I am not surprised most people have stopped. And working... 1/2 -

Carol Connolly (carolconnolly@mastodon.social)'s status on Friday, 23-Feb-2024 22:46:54 JST Carol Connolly I am voting Yes to The Family Amendment and No to The Care Amendment / women.
FLAC explain the problems with 42B here
https://www.flac.ie/news/2024/02/19/flac-legal-and-human-rights-analysis-of-the-propos/The gov have chosen wording that lets them wriggle out of their responsibilities. I won't help them do that with a Yes vote

Carol Connolly (carolconnolly@mastodon.social)'s status on Saturday, 17-Feb-2024 17:36:29 JST Carol Connolly @Antiqueight think of it like the 8th amendment - the number medical people prosecuted was tiny. The "chilling effect" was enough.
(Very definitely not saying what happened was OK) -

You can currently get it at many chemists. You qualify as you are frequently interacting with an elderly person (your mother) even if you have no specific underlying conditions yourself

Carol Connolly (carolconnolly@mastodon.social)'s status on Monday, 11-Dec-2023 17:43:52 JST Carol Connolly @Antiqueight I ADORE The Champions. Completely obsessed with it. Apart from the delightful nonsense of the actual plots and the reused sets, I am fascinated with the idea of them become more and more alien from the rest of humanity, and the only people who understand them are the other two people going through the same experience

Not quite as bad. But still extremely bad.

Carol Connolly (carolconnolly@mastodon.social)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Nov-2023 17:40:33 JST Carol Connolly @Antiqueight aha! I have found out the difference. If you don't pay, the number and layout of the ads you see doesn't change (as far as I know). But the adverts will now be targeted, and your data is scraped to determine what ads they send you.
The EU is not happy with Meta about this, so we'll see how it works out -
