   @Antiqueight as far as I know, there is just now the option to pay for an add free version.
   If you don't pay, as far as I know you get the exact same as right now, where your timeline's every third or so post is an advert

     @carolconnolly that's what I thought - I haven't clicked either button yet but I will have to eventually even just to close the account down because I'll want to tell folks and get other contact methods with some etc... I'm kinda hoping the EU finds a way to stop them before I have to.

     @Antiqueight aha! I have found out the difference. If you don't pay, the number and layout of the ads you see doesn't change (as far as I know). But the adverts will now be targeted, and your data is scraped to determine what ads they send you.
     The EU is not happy with Meta about this, so we'll see how it works out
