@sidereal I can't comment on the time taken to edit video.

As someone who occasionally transcribes: I assure readers that the time required to transcribe can be enormous — COLOSSAL — compared to the duration of the audio or AV content that must be listened to, repeatedly.

I can not speak for @howisyourdog but I typically don't bother with content that lacks captions (subtitles). Substandard accessibility is an immediate turn-off.

That's the answer, in the web interface, although:

― the menu icon can not be seen, alongside my icon in the first column, whilst I'm drafting this toot

― I can't find the feature amongst preferences.

How can I tell who's muted by me?

A minute or so I used the mute routine, expecting a duration as part of the routine.

I suspect that I inadvertently muted someone indefinitely, when a week would have been more appropriate …

「Are you an operating systems connoisseur who loves creating solutions for various problems? Do you find yourself fascinated by the latest technologies, and explaining to others how they will make their lives easier?

@stefano if I recall correctly there were at least two respondents to <https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/@grahamperrin/111688781615034634>. From <https://mastodon.bsd.cafe/@grahamperrin/111735088568465218> it seems that one of the respondents' accounts has been suspended.

Am I mistaken in my memory of there being more than one respondent?

2024: The year of desktop FreeBSD? piizog is "… about to write an article about this very subject to a Finnish computer culture magazine, from the viewpoint of a newbie-ish, enthusiast, non-sysadmin, desktop user. … I would be very interested in hearing of your reasons why people do or don't daily drive FreeBSD. @linus@telegrafverket.cc I agree with all your observations. It's clear, to me, that opening poster piizog prepared herself for eyebrow-raising undertones and overtones in her desktop-oriented discussion. Moderation in The FreeBSD Forums is, I think, an unenviable task. All things considered, the mods do a great job. Rules and guidelines do exist . I reckon, rule-breaking is: — least likely to occur in the many topics that are, or will be, solved (, for example) — most likely to occur in the off-topic sub-forum (there's another desktop-oriented topic on the first page). I do agree with all your observations, however let's note that (2024: The year of desktop FreeBSD?) is atypical. Re: there are various complements to the forums, with plenty of overlap. is not yet mentioned; expect various updates to the Community page in the months ahead. I like your choice of quote, 'If you can do no good, at least do no harm.' — Kurt Vonnegut HTH, thanks again.
