@namibj@c3isdn not for 38C3, but FYI: I have four [portable] Auerswald Commander Basic 2 PBXs for which there are Up0 interface cards. So if somebody wanted to deploy a fleet of your phones at an event, that is an option. What are your plans with that pool of phones? What's their normal use case?
@furan I don't think #rpi5 has the equivalent of SRV-IO to map entire PCI[e] devices into a guest? Not my area of expertise. In any case, I'd be happy if the legacy PCI cards can be used from normal Linux drivers on the RPI host, without any VMs/guests. #raspberrypi
@drscriptt its a kluge if you have to plug adapters into adapters... become mechanically difficult to mount, etc. I'll certainly try that as a prototype. Not sure if I find the time to do a circuit board Design for an integrated adapter from #rpi5 PCIe FPC to legacy PCI slot. The bridge chips are available in quantity from stock at distributors...
@arnd *sigh* how can anyone PCIe host/root not translate I/O ports? Isn't it super simple to just map them somewhere in the physical address space? What is wrong with people? #raspberrypi
Im surprised nobody has released a board with a PCIe to legacy PCI bridge for the Raspberry Rpi5 yet. Something to host old cards [like Digium POTS or TDM DAHDI, ATM, FDDI, ...] in it. Would be a power and space saving way compared to ancient processors of the parallel PCI bus. #raspberrypi#electronics
@nicoduck leider nein.
@funkylab@osmocom@LaF0rge I would argue that macOS and Android are even worse than Microsoft (iOS is fundamentally broken). It is very difficult to build an accessible platform agnostic solution with DFU. USB MSC can even work with Android or ChromeOS. That opens up cheap hardware that you could put in a middle school classroom.
