Diary of an AuDHD Squirrel. Day 532 , Saturday 12/04/2025

Up at around 7am, but struggled to get going so faintly got down to breakfast ½ an hour later.

Chores done & read a little before spending some time on here.

10:33 Oh Nuggan’s holey nuts! For some reason my brain is arguing strenuously against going outside again, even into the garden… I think it’s because there is a high risk that I might have to interact with the neighbours. 🙄🤦♂️
I know that the weather is going to turn tomorrow & that there is stuff to do but nope going thru either door into the outside world seems like fighting thru treacle!

So I mooched about the house for an hour then gave myself a sharp talking too & went into the garden for an hour, tided up the gravel that over spilled when the big clean was going on.

Also planted a few reeds that still seemed viable & re-strung the washing line.
Go team Squirrel!!

Mrs S got back around 1pm, why she thought we needed even more ready meals after I went out shopping mid week is beyond me!

But all the MH peeps I speak to reckon it’s my ND mind that is wrong & that I should just accept this kind of thing. *sigh*

I went wild & got the 4k remastered version of ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’ & we watched it this evening. They have made an excellent job of the remastering & I have to admit that I do love that movie!

Final Thoughts.

I’m kinda chuffed that I fought my lethargy & got out into the garden, even if only for an hour but it would be nice if It wasn’t such a struggle all the time.

Day by day until the last day I guess.

I simply get distracted far too easily to bake - & have no sense of time so things carbonise very easily in our kitchen if I cook!

@UnclePJ @actuallyautistic Ok so folk like me with autism/ ADHD etc are covered by the umbrella term of neurodivergent (ND) - ie our brains are wired differently to everyone else who are covered by the term NT (neuro typical).

One of the things that happens with ND folk is that we get hyper focused on things so that we are compelled to complete them. The fact that an outside stimulus - a timer going off, our partners yelling at us to do x/y/z or indeed a 3 minute warning going off - is not sufficient to break that compulsion.
One might say that we are incapable of responding to the alarm if out attention is otherwise engaged.

I also have no sense of time passing & am really not good at estimating how long a task will take.
Also - very much in line with me being a squirrel am easily distracted if not already tied up in a hyper focus event, so that even if I do respond to the timer then if something distracts me en-route, say I see that the cat has thrown up or that the soap dispenser is empty, or thousand other things then that will draw my attention away & the timer will be forgotten (this has happened countless times).

I hope this helps, it’s a hard concept to get across, people like Robert Kennedy & the orange oaf think we just need 4 years on a wellness farm to put us right - it won’t, we were born like this & develop strategies to mask our differences so that we better fit into the NT world - some of us get very good at that so we appear to be the same as everyone else, just a little weird. It took 56 years to catch me out- & that’s only because I sought an answer to why I was different.

If you’re interested in the core ways autistic folk can be different then do a DDG search on “Triad of impairments” which splits the most common ways autistic folk differ into 3 distinct areas. To be formally diagnosed one has to exhibit behaviours in each of the areas of the triad.

Diary of an ASD Squirrel. Day 490 , Saturday 01/03/2025

Saturday & indeed the month of March started around 07:30 when Mrs S got up.

I wandered downstairs & made us some breakfast.

It’s been a very quiet day.

No real news about my MiL, she doesn’t seem to be any worse which is a relief.

Played some more of ‘Ghost of Tsushima’ getting the hang of it now, if only I could remember all the key sequences for the special moves!

We had fried chicken for tea & caught up on a few TV shows we’re on with.

Final Thoughts.

A nice quiet day, tomorrow has a visit to Costco™ pencilled in, what fun!

I resisted the nut section on this occasion, might get a big tub next time though!

It was really warm in the car with the sun shining in, a bit cooler outside but I didn’t need a coat on, just a sweatshirt over my usual t-shirt.

Sun is too low in the sky for sunburn mate so you’re more likely just to get hypothermia - so no running around in your beach wear! 😆

Diary of an ASD Squirrel. Day 452 , Wednesday 22/01/2025

Wednesday was utterly dull & ‘orrible weather wise, although it did perk up for a few hours this afternoon which was nice.

A very frustrating day today, firstly my ADHD assessment provisional booking was cancelled. Then when I tried to get on the providers site, to book a new date, my password had expired - it took 3 reset attempts & lots of swearing to persuade the thing to work!!

Then, because of the delay I missed all the slots for ADHD assessments until April! Now rebooked for April 10th 🙄🤦♂️

I really, really don’t handle frustration well at the moment! Such a trivial thing & it drove me nuts!

We did manage to catch another energy saving session this evening so that was good - getting into the swing of it now, I know what to turn off & we have candles on standby.

It gave me a chance to catch up on here which was good.

Final Thoughts.

The little problems of earlier today have really messed my day up to an extent that seems unreasonable to me. Now every little trigger has me super frustrated.

I could really have done with my therapist being around this week, but I have to manage until the 4th when hopefully she will be back off sick leave.

Hopefully some sleep tonight will help, tomorrow is a new day!

Diary of an ASD Squirrel. Day 450 , Monday 20/01/2025

Monday started 2 minutes before the alarm went off at 8am.
It has been a dull & cold day, snow was threatened by my weather app but it never appeared.

I got a form to fill in from the Peeps who are supposed to be doing my ADHD assessment (no date for that yet) not sure if its an indication of things starting to happen or if they’re just checking I’m still alive!

Mrs S was out at her Mums for most of the day so peace reigned & after I finished my chores I hit the PS5 & played DD2 for a decent chunk of time, really enjoying it now - have mastered my first vocation (Mage), only 9 more to go!

We had a nuked spaghetti thing for tea - which tasted quite floury.

Finished the day watching Sue Perkins romping around Strasbourg, I do like a bit of old Sue, she makes me smile. 😊

Final Thoughts.

So deleted my FB a/c today, while I haven’t really used it for years it is a bit of a shame to have to leave it because off Zuckerberg making it a platform for the fascists. Hey ho there is a massively better quality of Peep right here in the Fediverse!
I have never enjoyed a SM platform as much as I have the Fediverse & all you wonderful folk!

Diary of an ASD Squirrel. Day 367 , Tuesday 29/10/2024

Tuesday was a quiet day, up late again thanks to the new meds, I’m slowly getting over the side effects, ,y brain is working better but they still make me really sleepy!

Yon gaming Pixy asked for some help with NMS this morning so we had a quick hour & made some decent progress. I put a bit more time in this afternoon after I finished the chores & managed to finish the expedition! I haven’t returned to the main save yet so that I can stick around & help Mel & yon Pixy.

Also completed the FO76 season. So now I can go back to a more relaxed gaming schedule.

More Supernatural tonight ,we’re getting near the end now!

Final Thoughts.

Sometimes life throws you a curve ball & your view of the world changes. Sometimes assumptions you have about people are just wrong. Sometimes all you can do with a problem is knuckle down & bear the load.

Diary of an ASD Squirrel. Day 341 , Thursday 03/10/2024

09:17 Once again before the morning has barely begun I’m drained to the point of uselessness. Cleaning up after others is soul destroying I don’t know how parents cope!
Tell you one thing tho gout is a powerful deterrent from turning to drink! The thought of my foot blowing up to twice its size & the pain levels it causes will keep me with the recommended limits for life.

I’ve gotta go get my covid & flu jabs in a little while. The next few days will be uncomfortable as I get past the side effects.
Heck first time I’ve had the jab outside a GPs surgery so many people in such a small space!
All these forms!

GP again next time!

I txted the plumber to book the annual service for the CH boiler while I was waiting to be stabbed & he called me just as I got home to say he had had a cancellation & was this afternoon ok!
So I went into mild panic mode to make sure that everything was ready for him.
Out boiler is a 13 year old Valiant that is still going strong (touch wood!) but it did need some extra TLC this time so he’s back Monday with parts & a bill that made Mrs S blanche!

I went wild & tried an alt PSU on the CCTV cameras that were playing up - it is a PSU issue, so tomorrow or more likely when I’ve recovered from the Covid jab side effects, I’ll finish the job & tidy the cables etc.

Final Thoughts.

We’re on the depression rollercoaster again, one day I may be able to get off for good.

I have been triggered something rotten today, all the usual home stuff, the people issues while getting my jab & then the unexpected extra work required on the boiler. I came very close to one of the more extreme forms of coping strategy today but have been saved by a last minute donut!

Closing in on a year of blogging, who’d a thunk.
