I’ve been exploring the fediverse and subbing and posting all over the damn place. Realizing lemmy can federate with kbin blew my mind. Not to mention the possibility of turning my old laptop into a personal server to host my own instance. Is this what it felt like to discover how the internet worked in the 90s?

Remove the ads and all you got is massive bandwidth and storage expenses.

You gotta recover that. How? Easy. Stop making it free. I'd gladly pay a monthly Reddit subscription, but I refuse to pay as long as nazi shitheads are running the business.

Why is it that porn game authors tend to be insufferable assholes?

I decided to ask the author of this porn game to tone down the insults used by some of his characters.

Literally in the first few minutes of the game they use ableist slurs: "are you a ________"? I'm not saying the usual words, like dumbass or idiot. Nope - it goes way worse than that. They use the r word, and in that same scene they use an even worse word formerly used to depict people with Down syndrome.

After I kindly suggested that these words were offensive and that by removing them he could gain a wider audience, you know what he said?

"Those politically correct people are too sensitive."

Not even an apology. I was about to buy his game but now I'm sadly taking the decision to remove it from my hard drive. And it's a shame because it's a really engaging and well designed game.

The worst part? A boycott wouldn't help much because porn games are a very small niche and and a boycott wouldn't help anyway.

It's TWO WORDS! TWO FUCKING WORDS you have to change in a fucking text file! And you won't even touch them because it's a hassle to you?

Well, here's the gist:

#Neurodivergent and #ActuallyAutistic folks in here :neurodiversity: do not appreciate images with eye contact, and much less images of angry guys cursing at you and looking at your eyes (yes, there was a post like that in my timeline; I've also seen elsewhere images of people laughing and pointing at the camera - I was bullied in school, how do you think that makes me feel? ?)

Even nice people smiling at you are still disturbing for neurodivergent folks.

"But if that's so disturbing, why didn't they complain before?"

And the answer to that is, YES, THEY HAVE, and they were harassed TO HELL.

So the reason why you never heard of people complaining about eye-contact images in twitter is because, as most neurodivergent folk, we've learned that raising our voice in front of hundreds or thousands of bullies is not going to result in anything good.

So you know what happened to these neurodivergent folks who were pushed away from twitter?

We moved to somewhere else. And that somewhere else is HERE.

I really don't want to be the accessibility police in here, but please, folks, it costs you a few seconds of your time.

There ARE blind folks in here. No, it's not a hypothetical. A friend of mine in here is legally blind and requires a screen reader. If I boost non-tagged images it would frustrate her like you have no idea, and it would also ruin our friendship. Not to mention, it would make her feel like she's disposable. Do you want me to tell her she's being a snob because she's (air-quotes) "forcing" folks to type those "annoying" descriptions? Go ahead, tell her yourselves, because she's probably reading this right now. ?

Sigh.

I beg you, don't ruin this beautiful accessible space that cost many of us years to build.

I see people here are starting to get comfortable and post pictures of themselves in here.

There's dangerous people out there who scan everyone's posts using bots. They're blocked when found by admins, but you never know where your stuff is gonna end up online.

If you're comfortable posting pictures of yourself then go ahead, just remember not to include any personally identifiable landmarks like street names and numbers, license plates, company names or IDs.

Assume the fediverse can be hacked and scanned. Assume nazis will sooner or later scan your posts and put them in a database.

If you need to share personal details with someone, use an encrypted chat app, like signal or Matrix.

Lock your profile so that follows require your explicit approval. Don't let strangers follow you - at the very least, make sure that your followers are not trolls or bots.

(Oh - and don't lewd yourself using your main account, it's bad taste. ? If you're into that, use an alternate account in another server - there are servers out there designed just for that - and put its handle on your profile, and never post public from there.)
