@technomancy Hmm, thinking back, I can't remember Star Trek fans ever doing that. Maybe that episode inoculated the fandom against at least talking like that.
Then again, the proportion of Picard and Riker memes I've seen over the decades is pretty damn high.
Over 30 years ago, I used to work with a bunch of baseball jocks. They would speak entirely in movie quotes. Caddyshack, Animal House, Airplane, Meatballs, Ferris Beuler, Fast Times, etc.
Later I started working more with nerds, and it was all Monty Python and Hitchhiker's Guide quotes.
I am starting to realize that memes are the internet version of movie quotes. Dropping the same memes over and over, speaking in memes, it's just as stupid and unoriginal and boring.
Why is it necessary when getting into sn airbnb to download some fucked up app called august, which then insists on a face photo and both email and sms mfa, and then uses the same phone number to send sms that wise does?
@evan To your knowledge, would it be possible in AP to pass along or enforce restrictions on who can reply to a post? i.e. no replies allowed, or only a list of approved users reply? If it doesn't support that now, could it be added?
@technomancy I'm not sure he needs to be dead, just neutralized, unable to harm anyone anymore.
Prison might do that, maybe death, or ideally just being ignored.
Remember Sarah Palin? Rick Santorum? Rand Paul? The turd was who ran for VP under McCain? They wouldn't shut up and they were everywhere making trouble.
They're all still alive AFAIK, not in prison, but harmless and ignored now. That's progress.
Cheeto Benito will bond out of prison, then appeal all they way to his personal servant SCOTUS who will acquit him. It'll take years, and he could be re-elected before then anyway.
Never will he see the inside of a jail, or even house arrest.
For those wanting to switch to #linux , here is the strategy I advise, based on 25 years experience:
0) Search what others with a similar background to you and similar hardware to you have got good results from. 1) Get some USB keys 2) Download the live versions of a couple distros that you think you might like or that others seem to like 3) Try them all! 4) Don't waste your time if they don't work or you don't vibe with them. 5) Install one you like. 6) Repeat if install fails.
